Paper Dolls and too cool.

I made this post. Got an email from the person who runs the site. Found out she's a mefi. Found out she'd psted the project in Projects. It had 24 votes before I added mine. And now she's made a mefi paper doll.

I found the site by doing a google image search for "Blade Runner Owl," since I wanted to show my girlfriend the owl's eye after taking a cat photo that came out that way. Saw the Rachel dress, and wondered why it showed up. Clicked it, made the post.

By the way, I am told the "naughty" link is getting hit 4 times as much as the "nice" one.

metafilter: naughty gets hit four times as much as nice.

I clicked on 'naughty' but not nice.

Yep.

For the record, I clicked on Rachel and Sally Jupiter before I clicked on Naughty.

But then, for me, Rachel and Sally Jupiter are naughty.

is there any way of starting with a fully dressed doll, then removing items of paper clothing, one by one?

i'm, er, asking for a friend.

You're supposed to say "girlfriend," Ubu. Has cjorgensen taught you nothing?

I believe in gender equity. To distinguish "girlfriend" as somehow different from "friend" carries an implication that women cannot qualify for regular friendship status.

The other subsites should be made into fashion articles as well.

AskMe = Practical green hiking pants with many useful pockets.
Projects = The homemade teal slipper-socks that some of your friends really like.
Music = An artsy charcoal beret.
Jobs = That white tux that seldom gets used, but might come in handy one day.
MeTa = The itchy grey sweater that you simultaneously love and loathe.

Yesterday if someone had told me I'd spend hours on a paper doll site I would have told this person they were cracked. It's scary to me how many of my interests are represented there. Not a big anime or video game person, but even these had me reading the accompanying post.

Good thing I'm so confident in my masculinity.

I linked this site on MetaChat...it is indeed awesome. And howabout that MeFi colorblock mini? Who's gonna wear that number to the 10-year party?

I would.

Cooter's going to. I have faith.

There is, if you go to NewGrounds, and search for "doll."

At least, according to my friend.

Insert me saying "if you listened to the podcast, you would have heard about it."

We covered it a few months ago: I agree it's a really cool idea for a daily site and I love that the creator made a mefi-themed one.

Any idea which episode? Will send the creator the link.

*Off to go read through the podcast descriptions*

And I would listen to the podcast, but I have a strict no more than 12 hours a day on metafilter, and I don't get though everything in that time. Can't go listening to a podcast too!

Shouldn't the MeFi dress be yellow on top with a green belt and blue skirt? A beret for music would be cool. No gray, of course. Any public recognition of MetaTalk should be suppressed.

This is exactly why I love MetaFilter.

Jebus, Cranberry, don't you know *anything* about fashion?

Now, repeat after me:

Blue and green
Must not be seen
Except with a colour
In between

Ubu, you have my favorite building in the whole world right there by the bay. With the opera house for inspiration surely all Aussies should be able to wear innovative color schemes. I hate to think of every one fearfully clad in MetaTalk gray

When I got home earlier this evening and saw a link from metatalk on my site stats page, I worried that some horrendous paperdoll-related fight was going on, but luckily the only dispute is about blue and green worn together...

Thanks everyone for looking at my site, I'm glad to have people enjoying it! I love that it makes people think of their childhoods and pleases Bladerunner fans as well.

At the moment, the "naughty" outfit (the nightshade fairy) enjoys 1,051 page views for today, making it the most popular page from the whole post, while the "nice" (the pink princess) has 290 views. Also potentially of interest: Rachel and Sally are running neck-and-neck, with Rachel garnering 424 views and Sally with 388. I had been so happy about my page traffic increasing during my October series, and now I fear that I'll never break the magic Metafilter traffic day again in my life. I had no idea it was on the podcast, too -- which one?

Oh, and my husband pointed out that some of the real geeky stuff is on my old paperdoll page, which is a paperdoll blog from my temping days in 2004, with a different doll. It's become rather unwieldy and comments don't work, but it has such gems as a World UFO Day outfit, a wood duck fairy and a "Barbie" style dress which is still one of my favorites, because in my head you can take it apart and make about six outfits from it.

I must point out that it's a shame about the MeFi-themed outfit.
Everyone knows that white is more professional.

I'd never wear that outfit. It clashes with my eyes and makes me look trampy.

She's lucky that it only got to WHEEEEEEEEE-level. Other sites have experienced it more as "plodplodplodplodWHEEEEEEEEE...Wait, h-hold on... Okay, guys, that's enough... OHGODMAKEITSTOP! *fizzle-thunk-serverdeath*"

That's surprisingly easily fixable, with the right accessories.

You can counter the eye-clash with some drop earrings and a subtle necklace, with stones chosen to provide a complement or half-way point between your eye colour & the colour of the dress.

And a plain, smallish clutch purse will add a definite element of class to the outfit.

Just remember not to carry around a can of beer in the other hand, and you'll be right.

I wanted to show my girlfriend the owl's eye.
There's a whole world of perversion out there that I would probably need a girlfriend to understand. "Show her the owl's eye" isn't even in Urban Dictionary yet.

White go-go boots are an essential part of any professional outfit, lekvar - I'm sure anil dash would approve.

Nice, shirobara!
