One last drink before the year dies December 15, 2008 3:59 PM   Subscribe

Are you one of the sad people who have to come back to the DMV to work on the 29th, 30th, and 31st (for half the goddamn day)? If so, how about an end-of-year meet-up in King Street, Alexandria or somewhere else on Blue/Orange Line (Eastern Market)?

Ooh, Eastern Market. I'm jealous now. Have one of those great empanadas and eat lots of free cheese samples for me.

Okay, if that's in San Francisco, I would love to come up from San Jose for a meetup.

Hey people look at the tags.

Crap, when I looked at parmanparman's profile, it said that he was back from San Francisco, which I misread as back to San Francisco, for some reason. Sorry about that.

Also, suck my balls.

If I'm in the area, I will probably need non-relative time... but not involving Einstein, per se. Past social experience with physicists has been way too enlightening.
posted by woodway at 6:21 PM on December 15, 2008

I'm just here to inform you that the tag should say "TheOtherWashingtonYouKnowTheOneThatIsntEvenARealStateJustSomeDCThingy"

Also, if you're going to claim 2 states (plus the above), a year, and a season on your post, just go ahead and claim "people" and "stuff" too.

(actually I don't really have anything to say, I just haven't posted to a metatalk thread in quite some time, and was getting the shivers).
posted by qvantamon at 6:33 PM on December 15, 2008

Wow!

Actually, I have to go into the DMV in Alexandria on one of those dates exactly to get a renewal. Provided it's not the 31st (when I'll be heading up to NY) I'm down.

Is this something I'd have to have read page 143 section 14 paragraph b of the metafilter handbook to understand?

Nah, suck my balls, it's just a DC-area meetup, though we does love us some rules and regulations around these parts.

posted by middleclasstool at 6:48 PM on December 15, 2008

Mr. Pterodactyl and I (as well as our friend who is staying with us) would certainly think about it, as we don't have anything going on. If anyone firms up plans, we might well show up (Take that, all my friends who say I can't make a decision or refrain from equivocating!). Keep in mind that we are naturally very shy (although we get less shy as we drink a lot, which we invariably do).

We live in Silver Spring, so the more Red Line accessible it is the happier we are.

I'll have to bring this "sucking of balls" thing up at the Boston meetup. What kind of ball-sucking equipment should I look for?

somewhere else on Blue/Orange Line (Eastern Market)?

We live in Silver Spring, so the more Red Line accessible it is the happier we are.

I just wanted to let everyone know that if you go up or down those little staircases in the Metro station, there is a whole other Metro line! They go to entirely different parts of the area! It's amazing! It's like a whole new world!

I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride

A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming

A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
Now I'm in a whole new world with you...

I would like to get drunk with the people from the internet, please. Eastern Market works for me -- or maybe Penn Ave? We could go real classy with the Tune Inn, or downstairs with Sharkey at the 18th Amendment.
posted by Someone has just shot your horse! at 9:53 AM on December 16, 2008

Count me in, though I think Tune Inn's a little cramped and...linear for a large group. I would prefer the Eastern Market/Pennsylvania Southeast corridor, since it's so damned convenient to my office and home, but as long as it's near Metro, I'll survive.

I suppose this would be a good place to invite folks to the New Years Day brunch the MrsMoonPie and I are having. Good food, good drink, good company, in the vicinity of 15th and Constitution, NE. MeMail me your email address, and I'll put you on the evite.

don't most people (who don't have nice plush jobs) have to work on the 26, 29, 30, and 31? or do i just have an especially sucktacular job? (we don't even get a half day on the 31).
posted by misanthropicsarah at 10:43 AM on December 16, 2008

The President just gave most of us Feds the 26th off, but, yeah, I do have to work the 29th, 30th, and 31st. I was figuring this would be after work, or at least late afternoon.

Hey, we could always go hang out with doctorschlock again, at his new location near Dupont Circle, on Tuesday the 30th.

You don't have to remind this consultant-to-a-Federal-department who works IN THE DISTRICT and just found out I'm officially not getting Inauguration Day off about that, thanks.

(But I'm not too far from Eastern Market and would love to sneak out of the office for a bit on the 29-31sttht.)
