Incredibly minor design detail: Could the [add to favorites] button be switched with [!], so that [add to favorites] is adjacent to 'x people marked this as a favorite'? I'm always hitting the flag button when I want to favorite something because it's right next to favorites.

Maybe there's a good reason they are not together that I've missed; I'm also willing to accept that I am the only clumsy/impatient/design obsessed person on MetaFilter and therefore this is a bizarre request.

("Yes", meaning I agree, not "yes" meaning I will grant this, although I wish I could.)

I don't know, I like the flag at the end. It's the last (and least used/important) thing because it's supposed to be kind of ignored until you need it. The plus sign is much larger and easier to hit.

Oh ok, we're just talking about posts (I added this post as a favorite to test). Yeah, we can move the [!] out to the far right to match the comment line.

But the first and last items in a sequence are generally more prominent/noticeable.
posted by iamkimiam at 1:27 PM on January 7, 2009

Oh, I get it now. Posts vs. Comments. And for a second I felt all special, "oooh, Mathowie favorited ME!!" (but I couldn't figure out why. And now I can. And its gone.)

I've always assumed that I only get favorites when people who are trying to flag me click the wrong icon in their haste. In other words: Please don't change this!

Ok, now it's on the outside, like the comments.

Yes, this post is displaying what I was thinking- no [!] between [add to favorites] and "1 user marked this as a favorite". Thanks!

YES! I will grant this! Hold on while I take care of it.

Oh wait.

This is folly, I say. Pure folly, and nothing good can come out of it.

The pluses and the minuses were getting all confused
Some MeFites were mistaking them, and buttons were misused
Were all those favorites from the past in fact just wrongly choosed?
These urgent matters did transpire while most folks merely snoozed.

This pony broke the sound barrier.

10 minutes from request to full implementation. Now we know who else is in the cabal.

The cabal hasn't actually run anything since 2002. I am, of course, not at liberty to say more.
posted by languagehat at 4:35 PM on January 7, 2009

Hey, did the number of reasons to flag just get upped? Or was there always a noise/derail option?
posted by Brockles at 4:51 PM on January 7, 2009

Of course the cabal doesn't run anything, they have a secret army of yetis and liberal bloggers to run stuff for them.

The cabal stays at home drinking cocktails made from bottom shelf vodka, wheat bran, and the blood of the innocent (sometimes they put celery in it!), watching TWO youtube videos at the same time on their dual monitor setups. The last member of the cabal who tried to run something himself fell down and can't get up.

Not so secret now, are you?! They keep the liberal bloggers better-hidden.

They hide them in the open, where you would never look.

Things were better here before the fall. Before the Terror. Before our loved ones began to disappear in the dead of night. Before they took our children from us and trained them to hate all that which had come before. Things were better before they took the outer [+] away.

I've kind of always hated all that text clutter in the posts one, and now, with the bracket sandwich thing that's going on, it just looks extra sloppy.

Is there any reason it can't be the same format as the comments favorites?

Flag this post as boyzone [♂]

What is the opposite of boyzone anyway? I mean girlzone just doesn't cut it. Womanzone is no good either, maybe something completely different?

Vaginatown?
Wymyn's Collective?
Ladyparts?
Chicks' Tract?
Female Forum?

Well, in my day, we took whatever [+] we were lucky enough to get, whenever we got it, wherever our betters decided to stick it, and we shut up and were grateful for having any [+] at all. Now get off my lawn snowdrift.
