Why doesn't the "display Youtube videos inline" setting affect MeTa?

I don't see the little inline viewing icons for Youtube links in MeTa threads.

Were they ever implemented for MeTa? I thought I saw them pre- ServerDämmerüng but I may have been hallucinating.

Will they ever make it (back) to MeTa?

Alternately, make fun of my misused Heavy Metal Ümłäütß.

My question: How do you pronounce the letter Ÿ? Or N̈?
posted by dunkadunc at 6:14 AM on February 20, 2009

Nope, we've never had the inline youtube player icons anywhere but the blue. So nothing's changed. But we can talk about changing it.

I think we just only ever implemented it for the blue, where youtube-links-as-content is more of an expected thing by far than in the grey or the green.

Implementing inline YouTube embedding in the green is just pandering to the What's My New Favorite Band? lazy question-askers. And it could only result in more hair metal for MetaTalk.

LET'S DO IT.

I much prefer SLYT descriptions next to text links. this isn't b3ta.

okay: Dämmerüung and m,ł, t and ß aren't Umlaute.

Don't worry, guys. All you have to do is scroll back up and Donut Man comes out all right. Just without his donut.

grouse : Who here likes umlauts? I love umlauts.

I prefer to call them Röck Döts; sung in a rising falsetto with a long sustain on the last syllable, not unlike something you would hear Bruce Dickinson deploy just prior to an Iron Maiden guitar solo.

All while throwing metal horns with both hands, naturally.

Just be sure to write separate, different code for each subsite though. Tradition must be honored.

But we can talk about changing it.

Are you sure you want to open that can of worms? Because if there's one thing on MeTa that devolves into the area of "motives for homocide" it's talk.

Okay, official Pony.

Personally, I'd like them for two main reasons:

- continuity with the green (I can turn off the part of the Youtube Title Adder Greasemonkey script that adds inlining options and stop seeing two inline buttons, one MeFi and one Greasemonkey)
- mobile browsers can use it as a warning (in my case, using the iPhone - seeing the icon means I don't click and get whisked off to the hideous YouTube "app"). Sure, mobile browsers could check before clicking, but we're type-a blackberry/iphone/cell users, no time for checking!

Plus: it's my first pony.

The frame rate on YouTube is too crappy to have subliminal messages. Thankfully, the blink tag does not have these problems. To wit:

Whenever you happen to have a chance, make sure to visit Amazon for deals.

Constructive or not, feedback is a vital part of Metatalk. Your help is appreciated to the end.

The trick to doing that well is to write the cover text coherently enough so that it doesn't read like one of those fold-in jokes from the back cover of Mad Magazine.

"The Al-ighty -ollar?" Oh, I get it.

This is only tangibly related, but this fucking youtube title adder script randomly starts and stops working for no reason I can come up with. Pisses me off.

jessamyn: "I like how all the umlauted letters drop off of the URL/title so the web address for this question is just a license place cryptic TB NLN"

The URL seems to have fixed itself (meaning, contains umlauted characters) now I'm back at home. Or is that browser-related?
