That's nothing. Season Eight of "Dancing with the Stars!", featuring MeFi's own Steve Wozniak is finally going to air on March 9th on AMC (WABC) in New York.

Cool. I liked the original tread, and enjoyed reading the whole issues revolving around distribution and clearances. I also liked the clips.

Woah, she's MeFi's OwnTM?

I may have to rethink my "don't be a creepy stalker" rule.

You're awesome, Nina, congrats on finally getting airtime!

No. She showed up in a thread about her once (just like the Woz did). That's the sum total of her involvement with the site. Can we please get the fuck over ourselves?

Yep. "MeFi's Own" is like the watch they give you when you retire after decades of quiet despair.

dersins, you're a buzzkill. Through this method, we can retcon anyone who has ever posted (or appeared to have posted) here as one of us.

This is the internet. We can write whatever history we see fit.

Yeah. Once you log in you're owned by Mefi, it's in the TOS.

Stynxno, MeFi's own, is going to eat a delicious pile of pancakes and possibly take a nap.

What about those who've posted our comments elsewhere?

Oh cool! Good news. And I had no idea Ms. Paley was a Metafilter person. I feel extremely fancy-by-association.

Gotta agree with dersins here. What's next, if this gal gets in the news we have an excited post about "MeFi's own Julia Schmidt"?

Clearly we need to establish a ranked heirarchy of Mefi's Ownness. People can ascend the Ownness ladder through various rites of participation, with level 1 being Having An Account; level 2 requires Commenting; level 3, Commenting In A Thread Not About You; level 4, Your First FPP; level 5, Your First Metatalk Post; and so forth.

We might want some para-levels too, like level 0 when you don't get an account but you do bug a mefite by email to post a proxy comment, and level 4b in which you make Your First FPP but it turns out that You Are Self-Linking, For Christ's Sake.

Maybe a staleness vector as well, relating how long it's been since you last actually did something on the site. And a Renown coefficient to put all this in context according to how many people outside of mefi are likely to be at all impressed by claims of Ownness.

Jesus Hanuman Christ, some people get worked up over nothing. A lot of people on MeFi are fans of Nina's work and have been watching this copyright issue with interest. Since Nina mentioned in the previous thread that she was trying to work something out with PBS, I figured those people would like to be updated.

I apologize for referring to her as "MeFi's own" and deeply regret any emotional trauma suffered by Real MeFites from this insult.

I've watched online through the years snippets and stills of this project and feel that if there was any justice she's win an Oscar.

MeFi's own John Hodgman on "meh".

Uhh, dersins, I'm pretty sure that most people use the term "Mefi' Own" ironically.

The Egregious Capitalisation and Gratuitous TM are kinda a Giveaway.

Looks like the film will also be streamed online beginning Feb. 26, for those not in NYC.

does "for those not in NYC" include "those not in the USA"?

i can't seem to find anything there to confirm or deny whether the streaming will be available overseas (and specifically, in australia).

also: can we stop feeding the troll & get back to discussing how awesome our own Nina Paley is?

I saw her present some early cuts a few years ago and the final version a couple weeks ago - it's really an amazing work. Our own Nina Paley is awesome, yup!

It's available in Canada, at least.

More importantly, you can download a 720p, 2G version of the complete film from the Thirteen website! They ask for a donation in return (presumably to the TV station, not to Nina Paley). We donated to both the TV station and to Nina Paley.
