An evening of new music, Los Angeles mefites? With bonus fellow mefitian content! speicus and I couldn't help but notice a familiar name on an upcoming program, so I figured I'd through this out for anyone else interested. We will be there waving our big foam #1 hands whilst chanting "best of the web".

March 21st, 8:30 P.M.
'Young Americans' concert
@ REDCAT
631 W. 2nd St.
Los Angeles

"Inspired by the classic David Bowie pop hit, The E.A.R. Unit surveys fresh new works by young American* mavericks from across the country. The ensemble plays Daniel Wohl's +ou-, Oscar Bettison's Gauze Vespers, Ryan Brown's Our Friend Adam, Jamu by Christine Southworth, and a brand-new work from Matt McBane."

*he really fooled us with that british accent

Wait, ob = Bowie?

This is wholly unexpected and entirely AWESOME.

We are Bowie. Bowie is us.

I'm afraid of Young Americans.

Also, am I remembering wrong or doesn't speicus have a gig coming up too? Or, uh, did I miss it?

The speicus electropop spectacular is gonna happen sometime in the spring.

So my plan to hide my online identity by cunningly using my initials in lower-case didn't work then?

Seriously, this is great! It would be fantastic if MeFiers came to the gig. There's a whole bunch of new and, dare I say, funky pieces in the concert and it's pretty darn user-friendly (not in the plagiarised cartoon-strip way, but in the music won't freak you out too much way.) I heard some of them in rehearsal the other night, and I think it'll be a cool programme. It's also true that a) either I walk around putting on a silly accent or b) I'm not quite American. Alas I am not, nor have I ever been David Bowie.

ob's in space? That's pretty freaky, man.

Anyway, I will be there for the new funkiness.

I will be up north, but good on ya, ob! Have fun playing REDCAT!!

Bah, might be tough... I have a giant rehearsal earlier that day and an early morning the next day. I'll try, though.

I actually downloaded some of herr ob's music from his website, and I would like to report that I am seriously grooving on Accordion Desert.

Have fun, y'all, and ob-- thanks for composing such nifty stuff!

Where are you going to get foam hands that say 24379?

(I'd like to, but $20 is my whole week's budget these days.)

Wait, what happened to the LA meetup with mr_crash_davis. Did that survive the mandymanwasregistered hijacking? It's not sidebarred.

That's it, I'm never sidebarring anything for you people ever again.

Including this thread, apparently.

Since the other thread was sidebarred, I'll do this one.

March 21st, 8:30 P.M.
'Young Americans' concert
@ REDCAT
631 W. 2nd St.
Los Angeles

Featuring funky freaky jams by mefi's own David Bowie. I mean, UB40. WD40? OB/GYN? I forget.

ob's in space? That's pretty freaky, man.

Well, you know... Space is a pretty freaky place. Set phasers to funky!

In all seriousness, if I was in LA I'd be there-- it looks wonderful.

Thanks guys. I know it's pricey so I'll be chuffed to see any MeFier there who can make it.

For the record, this was rad. ob's piece had toy pianos and a melodica and flexatones!

Oh man, I'm sorry I was such a lazy bastard last night. By the time I'd activated enough energy to dry my hair and think about going, it was too late.
