Cookout meetup in Carrboro?

Hey everybody. After our last meetup at the station, we talked about doing a cookout. thivaia is potentially willing to host it the weekend of May 23rd. Anybody interested?

I'm new to the Triangle, and was hoping there'd be a meetup soon. I'm not sure if the barbecue down here in North Carolina will match up to what I'm used to coming from New England, but I'll give it a shot, I guess.

Well, it's my house too, so sure.

Sorry. I thought ya'll lived together, but I wasn't sure. Nothing like inviting people to someone else's house!

Ain't no thang. I'm used to it. I've been invited to my own parties before.

I'm absolutely interested and am happy to contribute on the faux meat + veggie end!

Indeed, I have a grill and a deck. As stated above the 23rd is good for me. And just so this doesn't seem too weird, I did volunteer to host this and you are all warmly invited. So what are we thinking . . . hamburgers/hot dogs/ veggie burgers? Anyone want to potluck side dishes?

I'll make it if I don't have a show. My May is pretty booked, but I don't have anything on the 23rd just yet. I'll try to keep it that way.

I could probably make it. I can't cook for shit but I'd be happy to bring drinks, cookies, chips, whatever.

I have to check the calendar to be extra sure, but I think I can!

I hope I can make it!

Oh, I'll potluck the HELL out of the side dishes.

Ok roomie Thivaia. Since I'm up the street pretending to work, we can discuss times here on the grey. 6? 7? I'm leaning more towards early, so we aren't cooking in the dark.

How about 6:30? In the meantime, if you're coming or think you might like to and have not already been to my house, memail me and I'll send you the street address/directions.

Ok. So 6:30pm on May 23rd at thivaia and greta simone's house. Memail either of us for the address/directions.

If I'm in town, I'll come too! I've never been to one but it sounds fun. I can bring something too.

Hey, I'm not able to do any sort of organizing for a 10th anniversary meetup (moving, etc). I'd be able to and really would want to go, however! Can anyone take up the lead?
posted by Stewriffic at 6:59 AM on May 13, 2009

Something has come up and I will not be able to attend. Have fun and lmk if there is a 10 thing happening.

Hey everyone! Not that the meet-up is mere days away, I just wanted to remind all attendees to drop me or Greta Simone a line for directions, and let me know if you're coming so I can make sure to have enough burgers/veggie burgers/hot dogs, etc. Looking forward to seeing you all. The weather looks like it's going to be superb on Saturday.

Also, look forward to discussion of the 10th anniversary meet-up.

Grr. I am also not going to be able to make it this weekend, but I am blocking time off now for a big 10th party. Have fun all, I'm sure I'll meet you sooner or later...

I was so looking forward to coming, but now something has come up. I'm really sorry and hope to make one sometime!

Sorry I missed the note. A friend came in for a surprise visit and I was off the internet for a change. Next time for sure!

Good times! I was especially impressed at our long-distance travelers, odinsdream and partner (ohcrapIforgotyourmetafiltername).

hydropsyche said she'll get the ball rolling on the 10th.

And Stewriffic apparently drives faster than me, or at least opens her laptop more quickly after she gets in the house. The 10th post for Durham is now open for your participation. Thanks again to thivaia and greta simone for a great meetup.

Heh. I told you 15-501 was quick at night! I had time to put the dog out and feed him before I even opened up the laptop!

Ha! That's me! Had an awesome time, folks. Thanks for tasty burgers and lovely conversation. Hubby will be getting the pictures up shortly :)

Yay! Thanks, purpletangerine! It was great to meet you. Now I have to remember some of the other names. (I got the real names right, anyway!)

Also: glad to see you got home safely!

So sad that I had to miss it, but I really didn't have a choice. We just bought a house on Friday, and we spent all day Saturday cleaning up, packing and moving. Lather rinse and repeat for the next week or so. Bummed I missed it, looks like you had fun.

Wow, great photos, odin. You're a pro - I didn't even notice half of those being taken!

Whoops - also thanks to greta and thivaia for hosting. It was really great to meet everyone, esp for a quasi-lurker. Plus - fun lit history trivia: was Frances Hodgson Burnett a Southern writer?

Hey all. Thanks for coming. We were glad to host and meet you meetup newbies! Please feel free to drop a line anytime you are in NYC! We can have a Carrboro meetup in Manhattan!
