Ask not what your AskMe can do for you August 17, 2009 6:24 AM   Subscribe

VeryTinyHorsePlease? After x amount of time of thread inactivity, a MefiMail message sent when someone posts in your AskMe thread.

I often forget the fact that I have posted a question to AskMe, therefore I forget to followup if activity in the thread lulls. It's not indicative of any lack of caring about the question, I just, well, forget. I know, I know, that's what Recent Activity is for, but an AskMe response can be easily lost in there. Make sense?

Not really. How can it "be easily lost"? It's right there. If you check your Recent Activity, you'll see it. I don't see the need for this pony.

I normally check Recent Activity zealously, but there have been times when I've been extra active on the site and then been away for a while and never caught up. This pony would be a nice option.

Easiest way to do this is simply not forget. You can check your profile and see what Ask questions you've posted and click the link. Bookmark the page. Write a sticky note about it and stick it to your monitor. Carve it into your arm.

Although yeah, I'll agree that AskMes get pushed pretty quickly off the page and are easily forgotten sometimes, you have to be vigilant.

Oh: and if I wanted a VeryTinyHorse, it would the ability to mark a contact as just "Pretty Cool Guy" or something like that. I haven't met/fallen in love with/bunked/worked with or birthed any MeFi user I know of, so I end up not marking them at all or just 'muse'.

Can't a man dream, especially in a pony thread?

Too much hating. This is a good idea, and I've seen a lot of other sites do it.

I think that it should be the default that you get emailed with a digest of answers daily/weekly for any questions you post.

But then again, I'm canadian.

If we're stating preferences, I'd rather have the 'My Posts' and 'My Comments' sections of 'Recent Activity' just be combined into one thing. If, like me, you much more often comment than post, then suddenly after posting you have to remember that you have two places to check instead of one.

I'm the same way, except I use "spouse" just because the word makes me laugh. It's one of those words that sounds nothing like what it means. A spouse really should be something to do with pipes.

Instead of MefiMail, how about a "*" after Recent Activity if there have been any responses to one your postings that you haven't seen yet. If the number of unseen comments for a posting can be displayed, it seems that it would be possible to do this.

Are any mods going to weigh in? In pony threads, at the very least, one of you mod-beasts usually bounce in with a heavily reverbed, "NO!!!!".

Oh, wait, I see..this is a test, isn't it? To see how well I can track my own thread.
*shakes fist in the general direction of each of you*
And your little dog, too!
