The Cabinet of Dr. MetaFilter

New* to the Houston area, and I want to meet you, Houston MeFites!

I <3 Discovery Green, which will also play host to a free silent movie concert that evening: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, featuring Two Star Symphony.

We could start meeting up on the Green for a picnic and hanging out (or ultimate frisbee or people watching or making grass angels or whatever people do in public spaces like that) around 6, watch the movie at 8 and then when it's done at 9ish, relocate to a more typical-Friday-night-hang-out-spot.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Interest? Curiosity? Bueller? Total opposition?

*I'm not really new. I grew up in Galveston and went to UH for undergrad. But I've been living in Philadelphia for five years, so I might as well be a Martian for all I know about the area now. Also, everyone I knew here has blown away in a hurricane or something. So I need to meet some new, awesome, local people. That's you.

You're in luck *s, since Golden Arm Trio is coming back in November for the one on the 6th.

And you're in luck casarkos, I like MeFi meetups, so you'll have a partner in crime to get them happening regularly!

Looks like we have ignition, with at least a handful of interest, so I'll go ahead and sidebar this, but we should discuss things like where to head after the movie for some indoor hanging out! (Which I suspect should be considered the rain location anyway.) For that, I am useless. The last time I resided here, there wasn't even a light rail system...

I'll bring a sign that identifies us as nerds. It'll either be the MetaFilter logo, or the word "NERDS!" in big block letters. I haven't decided yet. Also, let's run this as a BYOWhatever shindig. Bring something to share, be it beverage, beach ball, blanket or...food. Sorry, I hate alliteration.

grr....I have an exam the following morning so it's probably a no-go for me. :( I'm disappointed I missed the previous one - I'm determined to make a Houston Mefi Meetup someday!

Still, I'll keep an eye on this thread in case I can pop in for a quick hi.

I'll be leaving from Galveston around 5:30/6 if I'm lucky. So I'll be out with a blanket, MetaFilter sign, and some snacks by around 7. Looks like we're going to have great weather!

So willy and are late of course. Can't see you all and don't want to walk in front of everyone so we're 4 trees back on the Hilton side sitting on the grass. Maybe we'll meet up after the movie. Thismusic is quite fun.
