I'm just here to say - yay!! you pushed the 'hot babe whistleblowers' post off the front page!

Oh gosh yes. I was just about to write you nattering email to inquire about this.

I will be in Salt Lake City with time to kill on the evening of October 9th I believe, by the way.

Yeah, if you're in Salt Lake City you'll have time to kill. Definitely. :)

I will be staying there that Friday night pretty sure. Will hit you up for clean and decent places to stay. Sorry to derail a potential meetup thread but if anyone's free NEXT week, I should be in town.

I can de-lurk for this, but Crown Burger, really? Is it too late to request a change of venue to at least Squatters or Red Rock?

Crown Burger would just be the appetizer. Can't let cortex leave without a gutful of pastrami.

Not sure if I would enhance or detract from the proceedings - but I'd be available after 6:30 PM on October 1. If you're talking about the Crown Burger at 377 East 200 South, I would point out that there is a vastly superior sandwich to be had less than a mile to the east at Hires Big H. [Having pastrami in Salt Lake City is like attending the ballet in, say, Galveston. The locals will give it their all, I'm sure. But it will be a weak representation of the art.]

I'll be happy to buy jessamyn the caffeinated beverage of her choice at our award-winning The Coffee Garden on October 9, which was Father Beese's birthday, if she'll be willing to sign her rookie card for me. [When Mother Beese is in town, we accomodate her at the Marriott, of which she's expressed no complaints - and she's a gifted complaint expresser. But it's convenient to not much more than the Olympic stadium and a deer-inhabited cemetery, so YMMV.]

Dammit, I'm going to miss both San Francisco and SLC.

On the other hand, knowing you're picking Crown Burger makes me less upset.

You know what? Fuck you Crown haters. Organize it yourself.

Just kidding.

I will take cortex to Crown for lunch, depending on his schedule of course. I don't care what the evening's fare is and I'm not familiar enough with downtown to know what's the best anyway. I would've chosen Port'o'Call if they hadn't torn it down, so anyone in the know is more than welcome to jump in with some suggestions.

I was thinking Skybox at the Gateway (they have great pizza, and a metric shit-ton of arcade games) but last week I was there and all the old-school stuff was out of order (no Donkey Kong, no skee-ball, no bowling, not a single functional pinball game).

May end up just walking up to Temple Square and having a kiss-in.

TIME'S A-WASTIN'. cortex arrives tonight (THAT'S TONIGHT, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30) so unless someone pops in with some suggestions we're going to hold tomorrow night's Salt Lake City meetup IN MY LIVING ROOM IN LAYTON.

Is this thing on?

Like Donkey Kong.

Crash has kindly offered to put me up and drop me off in downtown SLC tomorrow morning so I can proceed to bum around—my default plan pre-meetup is just to poke around the city all day, but if anyone has specific suggestions I'm open to 'em.

May end up just walking up to Temple Square....

Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsals used to be open on Thursday nights, don't know if they still are, and religious choral music may not be the order of the evening anyway.

if anyone has specific suggestions I'm open to 'em

There's a few suggestions in some past SLC AskMe threads, many of them good (some of 'em even mine). Maybe check the KRCL and KUER event calendars, see if there's anything up. But if you can get up into the mountains, I hear the fall colors are pretty great right now. Wish I could offer to give you a tour in person, but buses or shuttles might even run up to resorts even though it's off ski season.

Brewvies has $8 pitchers of Roosters' beer tomorrow night, and is showing a ski movie from Powderwhore Productions (FLAKES) benefitting the Utah Avalance Center, with showtimes at 7 and 10 PM. That could be fun.

7 and 9 PM, sorry.

OK, the final plans:

7:00
Brewvies (northeast corner of 7th South and 2nd West)
Food, beer, and a ski movie.

Come early, the ski movie guys said it sold out both showings last night.

That was a very tiny meetup, but it was a pleasure to meet crash and the missus, and the ski movie was fun (though the line and ticketing process was run as if by a bunch of stoner skiing enthusi—ohhhhhh...).

Pictures, and note that technically it is indeed plural, are up. Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet any more of y'all.

We very much enjoyed having cortex as our guest; I just wish I had been able to take some time off during the day instead of leaving him to his own devices in the city. Salt Lake City can be a very dangerous place for outsiders.

If they're as innocent as kittens, maybe. You're probably safer here than in your own living room.

I was at one point savaged by a band of wandering crosswalk flags. Nearly had me in, them.
