Congratulations to MeFi's own Interrobang, whose first book for young readers, The Secret of Invisibility, was just published! He is both author and illustrator - preview the illustrations here.

It's on Amazon too.

Salvor, I like the cut of your jib,
but this here is a power boat.

Congratulations interrobang! I just knew that move would do you good.

Awesome! Coincidentally, I have a 10 year old cousin who just moved to Lawrence and this is right up his alley. And, I score cool points for saying "I met the author in a bar" when I hand it over. Congrats, interrobang!

I will score creepy points by saying "it was written by this guy I know from the Internet" when I give it to my 9-year-old niece.

Congratulations!

I'm assuming this would be at a good level for 4th graders, right? Because if it is then I'm about to give it a bazillion and thirty-seven more cool points since the wife would be able to bring it into her classroom.

It's in the 8- to 12-year-old range.

If it weren't for interrobang I wouldn't know what an interrobang is.
posted by cjorgensen at 2:10 PM on December 3, 2009

I still don't know what 'a' interrobang 'is', but I'm not sure what 'is' 'is'. This is great news though as I've admired interrobang's work for a while and I'm delighted his art is infecting (in the good way) others, especially young others.
posted by Elmore at 2:17 PM on December 3, 2009

And I suppose I meant to use the word influencing, rather than infecting.

I've been a fan of Interrobang for quite some time, I loved the hole in the wall and pretty much everything else he's done.

So, congratulations, dude. You're awesome.

"I still don't know what 'a' interrobang 'is'..."
posted by Elmore

An interrobang is the punctuation in this sentence:

What the fuck?!

Also, in Unicode, there's an interrobang character: ‽

Does that answer your question‽

Speaking of shirts, we really need a model that just says, "Metafilter's Own."

That way, we can gift them to our famous members.

And we can wear them ourselves, knowing that one day we will all be famous*, and someone will write a post about us, saying, "And of course, s/he's Metafilter's Own..."

*At least for 15 minutes.

Oh! My kids' great-grandma lives in Lawrence and we visit at least once a year. I'm going to order this book for my girls and my nieces, who will be endlessly amused at the idea of an "underworld" in Lawrence, I'm sure.

Yay, Interrobang!

There have been several times this summer where I wished my nephew was older (he's 1.5). This is one of them. Right near the top of the list actually. Turns out the newborn presents are cool then it's all boring until 8 or so. So I either buy presents now and horde (not so practical) or hope you all buy the cool stuff and keep it going until he's old enough so I can buy stuff then. Maybe a mixture.

The book looks awesome, congratulations.

I am reading this right now and totally loving it. If people decide to get a copy, I think that's great. I would also suggest people order this book at their public library (same goes for any other MeFite book you've bought and enjoyed). It's tough to get small press books into public libraries and patron orders are one decent and totally legit way to do this. Make sure you check it out when it comes in!
