Twin Cities meetup

Some of us have been talking about organizing another meetup after the holidays. I was thinking we could do something different like a potluck. It has also been suggested that we do a movie night and drinks either at someone's house or at a theater. Ideas/offers are needed!

Doesn't the parkway theater have drink and movies available at the same time? That could be a possibility.

I've never been to the Parkway Theater, but holy crap, this weekend's noon matinee is Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Meetup or no, I'm going to have to check that out. The weekend after that looks pretty sweet too.

The Parkway is one of the cities' best. Great popcorn. Also: They sell margaritas that you can drink during the movie.

They sell margaritas that you can drink during the movie.

According to their website, this is only at movies that are rated "R" or higher. I don't think Santa Claus Conquers the Martians qualifies. "A Serious Man" is rated R and will be shown Saturday night.

I'm okay either way. Just wanted to throw that info out there.

I’ll have to put myself in as a ‘maybe’. There’s an unfortunate chance that I may be in one of the medial circles of hell – AKA western Wisconsin – that day.

If plans do get made for both movie and drinks, perhaps I could join for the drinks part afterword.

I'm gonna say I'm a 75% yes for Saturday noon (sick kitty, slight chance of a vet visit, etc). I'm honestly more interested in "A Serious Man" that night, but if the group wants Santy Claus, who am I to argue? A thermos of spiked eggnog may make up for the lack of margaritas.

We could have margaritas at Pepitos afterwards, right?

I know MSP doesn't meet up much, but you can do this yourself. Under the upcoming meetups, you see "add meetup?" It's that easy.

(Would do it for you but I don't know the venue, etc. There's a slim chance I can join y'all for drinks or something but I'm flying in from Arizona...)

Sweet, thanks! It is done. Parkway Theater in south Minneapolis at 12:00pm on Saturday, January 2nd. It's kind of short notice, so if anyone knows someone who might want to come, be sure to invite them.

I was figuring on showing up between 11:30-11:45ish and hanging in the lobby until I saw someone I recognized (which of the folks who said they would come, I think I can safely recognize Demogorgon or wheelieman).

I can be recognized by my red old lady winter hat with the sparkly brooch.

I am spygeek on Twitter, if all else fails.

Sorry guys, I failed to make it out there. Stupid car. Since quite a few people were otherwise busy, I will probably propose another movie in a few weeks or so....hopefully the advance team will give us a positive report.

Yes, even though it was only SemiSophos and I, we had a great time. I've been in that area several times in the past but I didn't know that theater was called the Parkway. The film was great though, definitely a good environment to support a Metafilter meetup!
