Any Tokyo MeFites available this coming week (Fri the 12th - Thurs the 18th)? March 10, 2010 12:03 PM   Subscribe

I will be in Tokyo from this Friday evening (the 12th) to the evening of the following Thursday (the 18th). Anyone want to get together?

I've got some daytimes already booked, including Monday (the 15th) and Thursday (the 18th) during the day, but my evenings are all free as far as I know right now. My main goal is to spend at least one night going out to a nice Izakaya (or three, followed by ramen...) not by my lonesome. Anyone interested in getting together?

I'm staying in Shinagawa if it makes any difference, right near the station (Shinagawa Prince Hotel). I'm willing to travel all over though, as long as I don't miss the last train, or can walk home relatively easily (I don't mind long walks either).

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you picked the exact dates I'll be out of Japan. Since you're staying at the Prince, be aware that, in the past at least, the top floor bar had a weeknights only all-you-can drink special. This was some years ago, and it might have changed. They may have renovated the bar. But on the off chance they haven't, it was a lot of fun to have drinks with a pretty great view in a lounge that looked like 70's Las Vegas.

Here's the already open meetup thread.

Here's the already open meetup thread.

Woah, I swear I did a search first before I posted this. Apologies for redundancy, and thanks for the link armage.

Ghidorah, that's a great tip. Sounds like fun, I'll check it out, and catch ya the next time I'm in town...

No problem -- just figured that it might be easiest if everything's in one thread (even if nothing's been decided yet...).

That other meetup thread seems pretty much dead... I guess lots of us are busy this month, including myself. I sort of half-committed in that other thread, and if you'll allow me, will sort of half-commit in this one... depending on when and where and who shows up, I might be able to join you. I could use an evening of izakaya and ramen with MeFites, but I have a feeling it wasn't your intent to spend one of your evenings here one-on-one with a Japanese stay-at-home mom, so I'll keep an eye on this thread and the other one.

Hey misozaki,

I could use an evening of izakaya and ramen with MeFites, but I have a feeling it wasn't your intent to spend one of your evenings here one-on-one with a Japanese stay-at-home mom...

Well, I wouldn't mind that at all unless you think it would be strange (which, if you would, I would totally understand). My goal is just to go out and have a super laid-back time, and based on my experiences with MeFites generally speaking, I trust we'd be able to do that. I should add that, since my goal is to one day soon move to this wonderful city (I am here now in 東京), I am interested in making as many connections with folks as I can, and MeFites are certainly at the top of the list.

So, *if* you would like, I propose you tell me when and where you'd like to meet up (I can do it any evening until the 19th, I leave that morning, and I'll go where's convenient for you). Then we have two people, and if others want to join, the meetup can grow (this may be enough impetus for others to join too...who knows...). However, this is at your discretion misozaki: if you would rather hold off until we have more takers, including folks you already know, don't hesitate to say so--I completely understand.

Welcome to Tokyo, dubitable! Hope you're enjoying your stay... the weather's been great these past couple of days, at least. Thanks for your offer and I wish I could just say, "Yeah, let's just go grab a couple of beers together!" but I'm not much of a conversationalist and would rather wait to see if somebody else says they could come. I apologize for being so wish-washy about this, and really hope someone manages to hop into this thread to make this meetup happen.

You needn't apologize, I totally understand. Let's see what happens and if we don't get some more folks, then there's always the next time. In any case thanks for responding!
