And thanks Art, as always, for posting something I'm almost pathologically interested in.

Well, it won't matter when NIGHTMARE GREEN commences, but until then, this'll be pretty awesome reading/ playing.

This game is really going to clean up. It will run you through the wringer.
No? Well, anyway, this is GREAT news! Congrats.

I was reading the China Mieville issue of Dragon yesterday and started wondering if Mr. Socialist Weirdfic had ever marked out about the Fiend Folio to or near Mr. Stross. I will definitely check this out!

Ooh, this looks neat.
[As a total aside, can I say that it must be deeply weird for cstross to read a thread like the one linked by bonehead, where his work is discussed with him right there in the conversation. There was an old thread discussing a judicial opinion that I had a substantial role in drafting while working as a law clerk, and I could barely even read the thread. Maybe as an author you get more used to it, but still.]

Could be worse, he could be John Scalzi.

Am I the only one who read this as "Metafilter has a roleplaying game in the works." and so was seriously disappointed when I clicked on the link? Nothing against cstross of course. Also, it'd be cool to see a RPG in the Family Trade universe.

I'm excited to read about this, but given how slow Cubicle 7 has been to get the Dr Who supplements out, I'll admit to a bit of trepidation.

monju_bosatsu: oh hell yeah, it feels weird.
Minor pedantic nit: it's incorrect to say that I have an RPG in the works; more accurately, Cubicle 7 have an RPG in the works (based on my books). I haven't role-played in 27 years, unless you count NWN (although this might just induce me to fall off the wagon).

started wondering if Mr. Socialist Weirdfic had ever marked out about the Fiend Folio
CM: You are absolutely right. I use AD&D-type fascination with teratology in a lot of my books, and I have the original Monster Manual, and the Monster Manual 2, and the Fiend Folio. I still collect role-playing game bestiaries, because I find that kind of fascination with the creation of the monstrous tremendously inspiring, basically.

I love that the standard explanation for all these mixed up monsters was always "a wizard did it". I understand that's no longer the case in 4th edition though. Stupid 4th edition.

Or in a least one case, to match a generic Japanese plastic monster figure/toy they used in their wargaming. (A toy that coincidently owned as a nipper. Boy did I geek out when I realised that.)
Stupid 4th edition.
4th Edition is for stupid babies.

Anyone with inside info know what engine they're going to use? FATE? The same one they did with Dr. Who? A custom engine?
