Happy 2nd Birthday, MetaTalk! Gotta love the one and only comment - if only they knew...

Mathowie: MetaTalk is now live. I've been talking about it for a while, and now it's here.

He won't thank me for it, but congratulations and thanks are in order. I couldn't imagine my life without MetaTalk and I had/have a good unimagined life. Cheers, Matt![Even though you were rude to my wife...]

What the heck is the point of this thread, really? Great, MetaTalk is two years old...woo hoo! Why not just mention it in the last thread of little to no point, here?

What's your problem? Not getting your RDA of zinc? Nobody come to your birthday party? Take your whining angst and go play with your 100:0 comment:content ratio someplace else - there's not enough fairy bread and red Fanta to go round.

the last thread of little to no point

Now I get it - you're jealous of the size of Miguel's cigar!

Schweppes Girl (welcome aboard!) had a legit problem - she can't help it if you're carrying several tonnes of emotional baggage about her husband.

You've hit my point exactly. Threads like this and the last 20 comments of the previous thread were content-free.

Now I get it - you're jealous of the size of Miguel's cigar!

People take one psychology course in college and suddenly they're Freud. Not everything has relevance to penis size. Again, I believe I made my point in the previous thread. Take a look.

This reminds me. I was at the supermarket the other day and saw actual six-packs of TaB for sale. I was amazed. It make me think of Antonio Mora.

So let me get this straight - you wanted the thread to die, yet you've linked to it not once, but twice since? Whose ego are we stroking now?

I'm reminded of the story of the Zen monk and his disciple who saw a woman drowning in a river. The Zen master leaped into the swirling torrent and pulled the woman to safety.

For several days afterwards, the master noticed that his pupil had grown sullen and withdrawn. Finally, he asked the young man exactly what the problem was.

'I'm not sure that I can be your pupil anymore, master,' said the young monk. 'You have set a very poor example by violating our oath not to touch women!'

'Ah,' smiled the master. 'But I left her on the river bank, while you have been carrying her all this time!'

Threads like this and the last 20 comments of the previous thread were content-free.

Weren't they wonderful? Life is an illusion - MetaTalk doubly so. Let it go, and have some fairy bread, grasshopper.

Let what go? You throw a fable at me (very clever BTW, thanks) and expect me to bow down? My point remains the same; I come to MeFi and MeTa for content. Many others do as well. The last 20 comments of the linked thread and this entire thread are once again the mindless back and forth of buddies. That's cool; I have nothing against Miguel or you or chit chat, just take it somewhere else. Bring back the content; get rid of the BS.

Recycling a StWC comment here, but it was one on that thread (no, not that one, that other one), and it seems appropriate :

A zen monk asked Tozan "When is a joke not a joke? Come, say a word about this!" Since he amongst all the monks was one known as a smart-ass, he answered : "Every thread is a good thread."

As you grow up and mature, you'll eventually learn to express yourself without resorting to childish sneering.

Forgive my ignorance, but what the hell is "fairy bread?"

what the hell is "fairy bread?"

A staple at Australian kids birthday parties:

Take a loaf of white bread. Cut off the crusts. Butter liberally. Sprinkle with 100s and 1000s (I think you guys call them 'sprinkles'). Cut into triangles. Serve with cheerios (don't ask) and some kind of beverage loaded with red food dye.

As you grow up and mature, you'll eventually learn to express yourself without resorting to childish sneering.

...sneered gd779 childishly.

BlueTrain seems to have set a new record for MeFi user progression, moving from Stage 1 to Stage 4 in a month flat. He appears to see MetaFilter/MetaTalk as a hostile place (for example, a parable posted as a 'by-the-by' was 'thrown' at him, somebody somewhere - God only knows who - expects him to 'bow down', and talking about MeTa on MeTa is somehow deserving of sarcastic, impotent rage).

BlueTrain comes to MetaFilter/Talk for 'content'. So do I. Idle chitchat is part of it. If I'm going to give a flying fuck at a rolling donut about what people have to say about things, I like to get an idea of what they're like when they're not 'on the job'. Do they have a sense of humour? Do they take themselves way too seriously? Do they have some kind of paranoid mania?

There's nothing wrong with MetaFilter or MetaTalk. There's more 'content' here now than there ever was. I used to get upset that the place was turning into a CNN ticker. Now I just come here instead of CNN. Maybe there should be a Stage 5(b) - acceptance that all in all, there's no place quite like it, and if people would get over Stage 4 or just Stage 5 the hell out of here already so the rest of us can get on with enjoying themselves, it'd be perfect.

COME up here, O dusty feet!
Here is fairy bread to eat.
Here in my retiring room,
  Children, you may dine
On the golden smell of broom
  And the shade of pine;
And when you have eaten well,
  Fairy stories hear and tell.
