Impromptu Amsterdam meetup over the next few days? May 6, 2010 7:46 AM Subscribe
Hey Amsterdam mefites! Want to hang out with this strange and exotic creature called an "American?" I'll be around for a few days.
I just realized I'm catching a train up to your city tomorrow after a long and grueling business trip in Germany, and haven't mentioned it here. So, yeah - I'll be in Amsterdam from, roughly, Saturday through Wednesday night, with no meaningful plans beyond "relax and explore"; if anyone wants to meet up for a bite to eat or a drink, you could have the rare privilege of speaking to a citizen of the United States. I know none of you speak English, but I'm sure we can work something out with hand gestures and vague grunting.
(Staying by Vondelpark, but perfectly capable of getting lost on bike or tram.)

You should definitely check out Utrecht with Joost. It's a cool city.

They are fun at first, but they cost too much to feed.

Plus, you can't spit in Amsterdam without hitting one.

How I envy you right now - been to Amsterdam twice in my life, last was 2007, and by god I cried when I left. I never felt so damn free in my life.
Have fun, hope you can find somebody to have some drinks/smoke with. If not you could easily make a few friends in many local joints. I recommend Durty Nelly's - I stayed in the hostel above, the bar stayed open pretty much 24 hours a day, and the people were beyond nice.

Thanks for the compliments for my home town chillmost and dabitch! Hartelijke groet!
I appreciate your attempt to speak Dutch not_on_display. Not bad.

Haha! Joost, that was... um... however you say "awesome" in Dutch. Geawesome? Great to see some of those familiar old spots, too. God, I used to love spending time in Amsterdam, back in the day.
And for some historical reference: my post on the Dutch Invasion.
