Oh that's a helluva week ain't it?

I am gonna be busier than a one-armed paperhanger.
posted by fixedgear at 10:19 AM on May 9, 2010

I think I should be fine for that week, as long as it's in the evening.
posted by piratebowling at 12:02 PM on May 9, 2010

Good for me, if it's in a wheelchair-accessible place. Would love to hear about the Disability Con, too.
posted by angrycat at 1:34 PM on May 9, 2010

I was planning in the evening, and we should find a wheel chair accessible place, for sure!
posted by PinkMoose at 1:42 PM on May 9, 2010

I would support combining wheelchair accessibility and beer.
posted by desuetude at 2:28 PM on May 9, 2010

Okay, so can we do the 5th, in the evening, somewhere near Temple.
posted by PinkMoose at 9:54 AM on May 11, 2010

Works for me!
posted by angrycat at 10:19 AM on May 11, 2010

whats near Temple?
posted by PinkMoose at 1:38 PM on May 11, 2010

I dunno -- I moved here less than a year ago, and I"ve only hung out at the Borders near Temple. Howev, I can investigate. Any longer-time residents have ideas?
posted by angrycat at 2:10 PM on May 11, 2010

Pickings are pretty slim near Temple for places to go, and I imagine anyplace nearby that's wheelchair accessible will be busy with conference participants?

If it's not rush hour, the buses aren't terrible at handling wheelchairs, which would open up possibilities into Center City.
posted by desuetude at 7:55 PM on May 11, 2010

Center City is cool w/ me.
posted by angrycat at 1:46 PM on May 12, 2010

The Broad Street Subway station closest to Temple is wheelchair Accessible as well, as is the Walnut-Locust station, which is a pretty good Center City spot.

Now, where in Center City is a good choice? I would normally recommend Good Dog or Nodding Head, but they are both, according to yelp, wheelchair inaccessible. (Which, BTW, I find pretty surprising. Both ground level but no ramp, I suppose)
posted by piratebowling at 6:49 AM on May 13, 2010

Nodding Head is 2nd floor, and Good Dog is too narrow. Hmm. Oyster House? Pricier, though.
posted by desuetude at 7:55 AM on May 13, 2010

(How did I forget Nodding Head was second floor? Please ignore the pre-caffeine comment)

I can't do seafood, but how do we feel about the black sheep pub:

http://www.yelp.com/biz/black-sheep-pub-and-restaurant-philadelphia

is it close enough, yelp says that it's wheelchair accessaible, and near walnut?
posted by PinkMoose at 2:15 AM on May 16, 2010

sorry, i cannot read, black sheep is out.

Okay, after more searching, I have these suggestions:
Vintage Wine Bar
McGillin's Olde Ale House
Fadó

I've only been to Fadó before out of those three, so I'm more than willing to hear feedback. These just all seemed to be okay for groups and wheelchair accessible.
posted by piratebowling at 8:11 AM on May 16, 2010

i vote for olde ale house
posted by PinkMoose at 10:59 AM on May 16, 2010

I'm ignorant, so will be fine with anything.
posted by angrycat at 12:22 PM on May 16, 2010

McGillin's is fine on a weeknight, but fucking horrendous on weekends. Vintage is nice, a little more upscale. Fadó is just okay, though it is spitting distance from the subway, so there's that.
posted by desuetude at 3:58 PM on May 16, 2010

Is there a day that works best in that stretch from June 2-6?
posted by piratebowling at 5:52 PM on May 16, 2010

I'm free Fridays and Sats, freeish Sundays. So the 4th or 5th.
posted by angrycat at 6:02 PM on May 16, 2010

I say the 5th, Olde Ale House, Starting at 7 pm. Any major objections, or can we sidebar this motherfucker?
posted by PinkMoose at 8:18 AM on May 21, 2010

aye
posted by angrycat at 9:02 AM on May 21, 2010

One of us locals should maybe drop by McGillin's on Saturday. I heard reports that it gets a little...douchetastic...and would hate to bring everyone in w/out a backup plan.
posted by desuetude at 10:07 AM on May 21, 2010

I'm gone this saturday and next, so would you be able to stop in desuetude?
posted by piratebowling at 1:06 PM on May 21, 2010

Yeah, I looked up "douchetastic" in the dictionary and it was just a link to the McGillin's web site.

Feel free to ignore me because I am a misanthrope (I think Fado is lame too), but when don't say I didn't warn you when some popped-collar bro spills his pitcher of Bud Light on you because he got so worked up shouting along to "Don't Stop Believing."

Okay, I'm just gonna call it for the 5th, Olde Ale House, Starting at 7 pm. Like PinkMoose said. It'll be early enough that I think we can leave if things get obnoxious. I'll be there with a metafilter shirt on.
posted by piratebowling at 3:08 PM on May 25, 2010

Oh, possible alternative -- Time (1315 Sansom) where Ludvig's used to be. I'm pretty sure it's accessible. I know one of the bartenders, and therefore have it on good authority that the douchebags don't show up there until midnightish at the earliest.
posted by desuetude at 8:23 PM on May 25, 2010

Go to Time. McGillin's is not a good place. I've been there plenty of times and Saturdays are the WORST. It might look like a cool place on the website but it's not.
posted by useyourmachinegunarm at 7:33 AM on May 26, 2010 [1 favorite]

If I jumped the gun sidebarring this, I'm sorry. I was getting antsy since we're close to the date. I'm fine with Time. It sounds like Time has more support. Should we just meet there instead?
posted by piratebowling at 8:03 AM on May 26, 2010

I will double-check Time's accessibility on my way home today.
posted by desuetude at 8:15 AM on May 26, 2010

We're all good with Time. Ramp to the door, ramp to the left side of the restaurant.
posted by desuetude at 5:15 PM on May 26, 2010

So Time at 7?
posted by PinkMoose at 7:16 PM on May 26, 2010

I'm up for Time at 7 on 6/5.
posted by graymouser at 4:16 AM on May 27, 2010

Okay, I'll get a mod to change it in the sidebar.
posted by piratebowling at 6:29 AM on May 27, 2010

Okay, just to clarify completely (and have a single comment to link to):

We are meeting Saturday June 5th, 7pm at Time (1315 Sansom). See you there!
posted by piratebowling at 7:55 PM on May 27, 2010 [1 favorite]

oh man, i live a stone's throw from mcgillin's and almost shat myself when i saw you guys were going to go there. douchetastic to the maxx and the antithesis of everything metafilter stands for. especially on a weekend. thank god you changed your mind!
posted by misanthropicsarah at 12:31 AM on May 31, 2010

So like what the shit?
posted by The Straightener at 6:38 AM on June 4, 2010

Yes, The Straightener? May I help you? We're having a Meetup. You should attend. See above.

(Yeah, calling you "The Straightener" in my "serious" voice still cracks me up.)
posted by desuetude at 8:50 AM on June 4, 2010

I'll be the chick in the wheelchair wearing a sparkly blue dress.

Sparkly blue in celebration of my first meta meetup.

FYI I'm going to aim to actually be on time instead of fashionably late. I know!

My SO's band, The Broken Prayers (linked article references a January gig), is playing at Tritone (1508 South Street) tonight at 11ish. Anyone wanting to hear murder ballads and other darkly likewise country/Americana music can follow me over there.
posted by desuetude at 12:51 PM on June 5, 2010

I'll probably be fashionably late. Do y'all think you'll still be there at, like, 8:30? Keep the thread updated for me, just in case!
posted by lagreen at 1:26 PM on June 5, 2010

I think it is very safe to assume we'll be there way past 8:30.
posted by desuetude at 2:09 PM on June 5, 2010

Thanks, desuetude. I'm a nerd and don't know these things.
posted by lagreen at 4:40 PM on June 5, 2010

PS, when you walk in, we are to the left.

Hey, thanks to angrycat, PinkMoose, vincele, The Straightener, lagreen, Tomorrowful, and piratebowling for a lovely meetup!

was really fun. i don't know if i'm happy or sad about it, but I experienced no SEPTA/absinthe hallucinations on the way home.

(although the vision of people in phillies t-shirts dancing spastically to jazz music has not left my head)
posted by angrycat at 12:54 PM on June 6, 2010

We really should have filmed the dancers. And that one musician's face. Just to share the weirdness.

There was something David Lynchian about it

desuetude's "partner's" band was great! all mefites should hear them at least once.
