I neglect my blog for the love of mefi October 4, 2000 1:33 PM   Subscribe

Other-bloggers: I've noticed something, and I'm wondering if it's just me (so many things are just me), or if you'venoticed it, too.

Since I've become an active participant on MetaFilter, it seems to me like I post less stuff on my own 'log. Has this happened to you, too; and if it has, what are your speculations on the *specific* reasons why?

Well, I've been posting less on my own blog but that's because it's down. :-)

Since joining MetaFilter, I err, started my own blog. Also, mine was much less a linking blog, and more a journalling blog, which I think makes a difference, too.

Since I had MeFi if I found something interesting I wanted to link to, I didn't bother doing so on my site.

In otherwords, I have absolutely nothing to add. Where are my pants?

no, I post different things here than I do on my own site; also, I don't post all day as some do. I update every evening.

I *have* noticed that my participation goes *up* on mefi when I am not updating my weblog (for instance: this week!)

that seems like a corollary....

Hi...

I don't have a weblog, but I believe that much of what occurs on weblogs belongs in a discussion space. A lot (not all) of what is posted to weblogs was once the province of discussion forums, bulletin boards and newsgroups. I enjoy thought-provoking discussion and intelligent debate...it is often the key to solving problems and fostering a sense of community.

MetaFilter is such a vital gathering place for the web community, not just webloggers, so I hope it doesn't devolve into a heavily monitored or closed community. The collaborative knowledge and intelligence of its members (not to mention *loyalty* :-) makes it an invaluable resource, especially when the discussion level remains high.

(AN ASIDE: that's why I chose to self-moderate the 'Reading, 'Riting, 'Rithmetic thread...to avoid the /. effect :-).

It's hard for me to say, since I'm so bad at updating webmutant to begin with. :} But yeah, it does seem like my participation here cuts into updating my own blog ....

Why? I think it's partly because here, you get almost instant feedback on your comments. That's pretty addicting.

Good God. I'm sorry about that. I kept getting "Your message appears to be blank, try again" error messages, and kept trying again, never noticing that it was actually posting ....

You know, I think I'm gonna go work on my own blog -- I can edit that. :)
