Banjo jokes about the south? From the mods? Really?

It wasn't a joke about the South, it was a joke about chase scene cliches from movies.

To be fair, that probably is the simplest and best answer.

Banjo jokes about the south? From the mods? Really?

On one of the early ones, Jessamyn made a crack (in good fun) about the South not having trees, which boggled my mind. I think most houses come with a tree or two for shade!

We got so many trees! We got trees coming out of our asses! I wish I had heard that! I would have been so pissed! Like I am now! Where are all these exclamation points coming from?! So many trees!!!!!!!!

Maybe she meant the South West.

Banjo chase music is a classic cinema trope, and I would fucking love to be able to pull off that kind of Scruggs-style finger roll on my closed-back but my fingers are too slow and clumsy.

I will defend Dueling Banjos to tedious length, as well.

I missed the milk thread first go around and my first thought was, "interstate commerce laws ain't nothing to fuck with" which was confirmed by Ironmouth fairly quickly. I listened to the interview, did I miss something about how this is not really, really illegal?

If they are pine trees, which end comes out first?

Serious question: are there Inception spoilers in the this podcast?

No spoilers, I'm the only one who had seen it and I kept it quite vague.

I want to see the recognizability index numbers from the "Who Said What" game.

ah, now that I'm listening to it, a couple of notes for Matt:

1) Totally agree on the IT Crowd/laugh track issue. I wanted to like the show, I even did like the show, but I just couldn't watch it after years away from any kind of laugh track programming.
2) The 'Pour Those Torrents Out On The Lawn Young Man!' comment (did I hear that right?) made me snort beer through my nose without even knowing the context. Good work!

Banjo jokes about the south? From the mods? Really?

I adore banjo music. I think it was a Dukes of Hazzard joke. Why would I have said the south didn't have any trees, that's so strange. Maybe it's because I live in a forest and anywhere seems to have fewer trees.

And yes, absolutely no spoilers.

jessamyn, are you trying to make me and stratastar have a relationship talk? because you came awfully close right there.

I'm glad you liked the Louis CK post, Jessamyn! But you got my username wrong. :(
It's supposed to sound like "wow me" but starting with an R. I guess that's what I get for picking a name that looks so much like "Naomi."

I make the distinction only because Ray Omi is a Facebook fan of Amanat Ali, and I have yet to form an opinion about Amanat Ali, you guys! I wouldn't want to give Google stalkers the wrong idea of what my tastes are regarding Pakistani reality TV stars.

Why would I have said the south didn't have any trees, that's so strange.

It was in episode 25, starting about the 37 minute mark and to be fair, I misremembered, you're talking more about Florida, which isn't really the South, it's totally different brand of crazy. You were giving reasons why you'd never live in Florida (no trees, low altitude, bugs)

THEN ya'll went on to talk about a thread that turned into a Fuck the South thread and you jokingly opined how the South became stupid, heh.

80 minutes? Jesus.

I know, but the first 30 are ewagoner's story in an interview, followed by a more normal 50 minutes of talking. We talked with Eric for nearly 40 minutes, and I wanted to cut it down to maybe 15-20 minutes but it was tough because he gives long answers and it's a crazy story worth telling.

It wasn't a joke about the South, it was a joke about chase scene cliches from movies.

Whenever I'm with someone in the car and they're driving and they do something mildly crazy/reckless, I make a little "banjo roll" sound effect too. It's definitely not a Southern slur, but a cinema joke, so I'm 100% sure mathowie was coming from the same place.

Besides, banjo music in my book is not a slur but a total positive!

Holy shit, you all weren't kidding - that Full Glass Empty Clip site is bee-yoo-tee-ful! I am in awe of stavrosthewonderchicken's chops.

I mean, it's kind of wasted on me, since I play Sims 3. But still, I appreciate the craftsmanship.

Also I demand more 80-minute podcasts, because it's exactly the length of my drive to Seattle to visit friends.

Thanks, all! It was an honor to talk with you all for this. I've given a fair number of interviews since this all went down, and this was far and away my favorite. Sorry if I made your editing job harder, Matt. I never got the hang of talking in sound bites :)

80 minutes? Jesus.

Yeah, but the only really slow part is in that eight-thousand-year-long second following Matt's contrasting of the UR DOIN IT RONG's AskMe favorites to its flags. If you jig around with the levels and pitch, you can just barely make out jessamyn and cortex's psychic screams of 'DUDE SERIOUSLY STFU!'

That spontaneous, pitch-perfect, simultaneous groan when Matt brought it up? Brilliant.

(Yeah, I'm a few days late... I've been behind on my podcasts in general because my commute is shorter in the summer.)
