Attention residents of Davis, CA. You have outed yourselves. Why haven't we ever had a meetup?

Would anyone be interested in meeting at the Wednesday evening Farmers' Market on August 4th or 11th? There be beer there, as well as food, as well as cute dogs and peaches and ample lawn seating.

Or, if the weather ever finally turns seasonable, maybe an indoor location is preferable?

I'm down! I had no idea there were so many Davis people on MeFi... The 11th would work for me; I'm in a conference in SF next week.

It would be interesting to meet some people from MeFi... I could potentially meet up on the 4th, but will be out of town the next 2 weeks after that.

Why haven't the Davis, CA MeFites ever had a meetup? Obviously because they're spending all their time working on the Wiki...

I know how you feel, mr_crash II:JO, I was once introduced to an audience as Mr. Whittier instead of Wittler. And it's one of the few L.A. suburbs I've never stopped in.

A Sacramento/Davis meetup was suggested by aniola who then passed it off to kaibatsu who was unable to make it . . . as the only attendee, I recall it as a subdued but enjoyable time.

Dunno about the seventh for me: at some point my mom is coming into town to see my show (I would guess late morning/early afternoon arrival) and believe me, nobody wants her at that. She's still terrified of people being met online. So it'd be more of a "go, might leave early when the phone rings" sort of thing for me.

I love the idea of making the Sac folks schlep to Davis for once, though, 'cause man, I'm tired of the other way around.

the farmer's market is lovely for meeting up with friends that you recognize but a terrible idea to meet friends you've only known online---it's been CRAZY lately maybe an off night at Delta? Saturdays and the 11th are fine with me.

The Davis Wiki is tabling at the Farmer's Market for the rest of the summer, and they need volunteers/company. If you're at the market, look for 'em and be sure to say hi!

Delta sounds good. I just walked by and noticed their summer hours earlier today. They open at 7:30 every morning and close at 10pm Monday-Wednesday, midnight Thursday/Friday, and at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

I remember, I just didn't realize that qualified as a meetup!

Evenings are better for me, so I'd tend to steer away from the Saturday market or Delta before 2:00, but I'm all for enticing the Sacto folks to come over.

What about a Saturday evening at someplace bikeable with outdoor seating? Sudwerk, maybe?

Meeting new people is usually good... I'd be down for this, but I'll be out of town starting saturday for 2 weeks. Sudwerk or Delta would definitely be the place to go.

I propose a potluck at my place near 8th and L Streets on Saturday, August 21st at 7:00pm. This is based on the notion that people will be able to attend an event with sufficient notice. Davis is famous for potlucks, so let's have one!

Sorry to come back late to this -- been out of the office. Can I respectfully request/suggest that we do something other than a potluck on a Sunday? Two reasons. One, it seems like our maximum attendance may be 5 -- and that's if everyone shows. That's a lot of work, expense, and food for just a few people (again, some of whom may not show up). I think it would make more sense for our first time if we could just all meet OUT somewhere, and either eat or not. If we ever end up with a more committed group, a potluck would be a great idea. But for a first meetup? I'm really reluctant.

Second, Sunday evenings are all about get-ready-for-the-work-week for me. I suspect I might be the only 8-to-5er here. :)

I don't want to change plans after they've been made, and aniola I think it's really gracious of you to offer to host. If y'all want to go ahead, by all means do so. I won't be able to attend this, though, and that would make me sad (since I brought it up!).

I'm an 8-5-er too, I'm just used to Sunday nights being bizarrely busy. But that is a very good point if there's only 5 folks showing. Maybe it just should be at a restaurant?

I'm a 7-3:30er myself and I live an hour away from Davis, so a non-weeknight meetup at some point in the future would be much appreciated.

I was just trying to keep the conversation going; I'm not tied to the notion of having it on that date or at my place. I have more time (sort of. Bike Forth keeps me rather busy) than money at the moment, so a potluck is preferable for me (I can make tasty things from the garden!), but it sounds like a lot of you have more money/work than time.

Let's figure out a time that's good for everyone and then decide the place from there? I think a Friday or Saturday evening later in the month would work with everyone's schedules. Is everyone ok with 8/27?
