What are the sources in the MetaFilter community network where if its not an FPP, doesn't fit into any other category and I don't really feel like framing it as an AskMe, can I vent, chat with friends&Mefites, and deal with something on my mind, in general?

You could write a blog post and link to it on Twitter. That's what I do. This can start a conversation either on Twitter or in your blog comments. Feel free to follow me on Twitter and send anything my way.

And as I said, you can see Mefites' accounts on lots of social websites. Facebook, for instance, doesn't have the restrictive character limit of Twitter.

Well, it's feeling increasingly like you were looking for a place to randomly bullshit, and while that does happen by accident in the grey sometimes it's really not what this is for. Like Jessamyn said, there's not really a spot specifically for that on the site and while it's fine for you to ask about other places it's not so great for you to shoehorn it in here.

I wouldn't particularly say anything except that this is feeling kind of like a habit with you at this point: get bored, go to metatalk and start chatting in whichever thread is handy. I'd appreciate it if you could fight that instinct harder in the future.

Better: make it look like a murder-suicide and walk away scot-free. You just have to leave some evidence that your toaster was screwing around with your ego's drug stash or something like that and it was a revenge moment. And once the deed was done, your ego couldn't take the strain and opted for the easy way out.

Leave a gin-soaked note and make sure the weapon has the appropriate finger prints.

I took the original question to be something along the lines of "I can't do this here, is there a place I CAN do it?" and when a few answers were like "well try this place and that place but don't do it here" then yeah, turning a MeTa into an idle bullshit thread is not so great. Huge problem? No.

Let Me In is not quite as good as Låt den rätte komma in, but on the plus side, it contains one really spectacular car crash shot*, zero CGI cats, and works the "father" angle more effectively than the first film and more pointedly than the book. The remake's major failing: The virtually eternal deep-freeze of a Swedish winter doesn't quite translate to New fucking Mexico. And there was absolutely no reason whatsoever to shoehorn Tommy in there, especially like that; it's just a sad reminder that the book's big climax didn't make the cut in either adaptation. Also: "Abby"? Really?

*the car crash is not in the book, which makes it seem sort of effects-for-effects'-sake, but at least it's not lifted wholesale from the Swedish film--along with the puzzling lack of context--<SPOILER>like the swimming pool scene is</SPOILER>

I had speed via the wand and extra speed via the boots, I had the sleep spell which allowed me to pummel anything that was a threat and +2 or +3 Magicbane to harvest: and Create Monster. I had a coaligned altar in the same room as the stairs to the first level of the Gnomish mines. I had MR of 3. I was a -8 Wizard and had all the spells that I needed to get to mid-game. I was telepathic and saw an easily edible Plains Centaur.

Who? How? does a Plains Centaur get a wand of death?
posted by vapidave at 10:38 PM on October 8, 2010 [1 favorite]

I dunno Sys Rq. It's not just that. Much as I like Chloe Moretz, I think the original made a better choice to present Eli a touch more sympathetically than Abby was. I think making her seem more, dare I say, warm on the surface adds to the creepiness as you think about it.
