Related to pony still in the stable: how often do you update your profile?
I was originally going to put in a pony request to have "[User X] has updated their profile" appear in the Contact Activity, but then, how often do you all change your profile anyway? Do you change the pic? Your statement to the community? Your favorite posts? When was the last time you changed any of these, if ever? About how often does it happen?
I'm just curious, is all, if this pony request would, if implemented, even get a lot of use. Or if you all are totally switching things up in your profile on a regular basis without anyone knowing unless they keep checking it out to see if you updated anything.

The only changes I've ever made are updating my location and adding a couple "also on" sites. Otherwise, it's the same as the day I joined, and my ten-year anniversary here is a week from today.

And to answer the question: not much. Usually only to take advantage of some profile feature I hadn't noticed (birthday line) or which hadn't existed before (new also on sites). I changed my status line once due to a MetaTalk thread, in a probably vain effort to outsnark the snark.

The last time I remember changing my profile was to fix it after RoboForm helpfully set my "occupation" to be my official title at work when I changed some unrelated preference. Also, I occasionally add web service links.

I like tinkering with my picture now and then, and of course I have to add links to the ever-expanding Vreeland Network of Dilapidated Websites. Some things have needed to be made past-tense, and I just re- jiggered my gender and profession for the fist time in 7 years just a few months ago.

I add or subtract things from my profile depending on how enamored or disgusted I am with the metafilter community at the moment. The closer I am to disabling my account, the less information appears in my profile. The happier I am with the community, the more I add accurate information.

I'll add stuff a couple times a day for a few months, then go months without doing it, then add stuff a couple times a day. Then after a year or so I'll remove it all and start doing it again. I hope somebody saw it and got a kick out of a funny link or comment here or there.

I fill these forms out once. However, after I discovered that the "status" field was intended to signal one's sexual status, and not one's position in society, I updated mine to reflect a hitherto never-before considered category.

I update it several times in a two month period, once a year, with secret quonsar info (links to relevant MT threads, and this year, I added a permenant link to the signups are live! email notification list. )
Also, last year there was a devastating pie coup, and a former favorite dropped 4 places on my list of ranked pies. Still, no one ever reads it, except my cats who are secretly plotting to overthrow me and exile me from my bedroom.

I updated my profile picture when I got a photo of me with Dame Edna. Other than that, it's pretty static. I don't think I'll be able to change my profile pic unless I can stalk John Waters on the streets of SF and get him to pose for a pic with me.

In general, though, natural selection favors adorable children. Artificial selection in addition would produce some freaky kitten/Emma Watson/furby/koala hybrid wearing Etsy mittens and a top hat and that would be bad.

Speaking of ColdChef's daughters, a Facebook friend of mine posted this pic a couple of days ago. I was just about to explain to him that OMG I know the guy who took that photo! when I remembered that OMG I don't really know the guy that took that photo! at all. Then the photo slid off of my page and I didn't even like his post. True story.

That's the craziest thing. That pic went viral and I've had people all over the world tell me they've seen it on all reddit and SA and fark and stangers' facebookings. I think it's hilarious, but I've gotten some stern condemnations, too. Heh. Nice to know it is still making the rounds.

Not at all - all kids are adorable, though. They have to be or we wouldn't feed them. They stop being adorable at about the same time they learn to fend for themselves.

I peek at and tweak mine occasionally... when I'm feeling froody. Not much has changed for the better... and the worse it too much to document. I too would ride this pony. It would be nice to know when good things happen to those who connect to us.
