2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony July 27, 2012 2:15 PM   Subscribe

I just wanted to say to all US mefites: the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony is a must watch. Danny Boyle has done us proud.

I gather it's on in the evening US time? No spoilers then, but it's completely bonkers. In a good way. You should all watch it :)

Yeah, no thanks to NBC, it's not on in the USA right now. Joke on twitter is the 2 countries not showing live is USA and North Korea.

I dunno, it's really hard to find information like that about North Korea.

The whole thing is a £27million love song to the UK. You should all watch in order to truly discover how awesome we are. Or weird. Possibly both.

It should be a 60-foot tall Voldemort battling a 60-foot tall chip butty then.

There better be some Morris dancing involved.

Huh? I thought Danny Boyle was British.

Normally this is the sort of thing that I find infuriating, but I'm going to keep my kids up late so they can watch it with my wife and I this evening. Wouldn't have been able to do that if it had aired this afternoon, so you know... I'm actually kinda happy about the delay.

Yeah, he's English, so's Pharm. Pharm was just making it clear to US folk that the opening ceremony comes with a seal of approval.

Yeah, I'm with Zarq on this one. The tape delay of sporting events is crap -- though pretty easy to get around with online coverage. But I'm actually looking forward to sitting down and watching the NBC coverage of the opening ceremony, Bob Costas and all.

(Also, simulcasting from my laptop with downloaded BBC coverage as well, which was really fun to do 4 years ago as a compare/contrast)

I am eagerly awaiting the Rowling / Davies Olympic crossover matchup Voldemort vs. The Doctor.

It's a wand, Pond. Wands are cool.

I thought dobbs was, as you might say, taking the piss out of people -- making the assumption that 'us' always meant U.S. -- but I realized re-reading pharm's phrasing that might not be the case.

("pharm's phrasing" is a phery phun phrase)

Don't tell me what to do.

I was gonna skip it because I always skip it. But now I'm gonna skip it just to spite you.

This really isn't metafilter related in any significant sense, and we have at least one olympics thread open on the blue. I'm going to close this.
