Heh. Thank you! Mr. husband is being a bravehearted angel, hunting and gathering for me in sun-shattered, mostly abandoned mid-August Athens, and foods are being cooked, drinks are being drank, AC is being run with abandon, and all is lovely in my world.
Except for Romney announcing his running mate today. :)

Wow, I'd heard things were bad in Greece, but I had no idea.
Well, anybody who has the means at all mostly leaves the city for the seaside or mountains at this time, which is also coincidentally the hottest, most miserable time of year, and a major religious holiday in Greece, celebrating the Assumption of Mary. The cities always feel abandoned at this point, with way less traffic, a ton more empty parking spaces, very few businesses open (thus the hunting and gathering challenge). It's a normal thing in mid-August, even without economic meltdown.

I flew right past Athens in early July; seated behind the wing, fantastic sight. I saw you! You were sitting at that nice, round little harbor thingy in Piraeus, right? Feet up, a glass of white wine in front of you? I even took a picture.

I don't know why this post wasn't deleted. I believe this same mod deleted a post I made after no one had posted anything to MetaTalk for over 3 days and I asked if everyone was alright. For the same reason all the posts celebrating MeFi babies, or marriages, or birthdays don't: They're MeFi-related and therefore what MetaTalk is for. Jokes are not what MetaTalk is for, although sometimes they exist in the comments, because comments are rarely deleted in MetaTalk.

Thanks, thanks! Birthday was really calm and pleasant. The (literally) coolest thing was that it clouded over in late afternoon, and sometime around twilight/dark it even rained a tiny bit (a rare event in summer)... and the temperature dropped significantly, so we even managed to sit outside for a while for the first time in weeks. A birthday gift from mother nature!

It's funny to think of you in your Mediterranean climate and me in mine - it's Fogust here, although we've had a remarkable run of gorgeous days that aren't too hot and aren't too cold. Still need a jacket at night, though, at least in San Francisco.
