How did the MeFi Swap work out for everyone else? May 16, 2002 11:40 PM   Subscribe

How did the MeFi Swap work out for everyone else? I will admit that I was amazingly tardy about sending out my mixes, but at the same time, I've only received 3 of the 5 I was expecting. Is there anyone who is still working on their mix? Anyone else wondering "where are those last two discs?"

i've received four out of five so far. the ones i have are all unique, excellent mixes and only one song out of the 60 or so was already in my cd collection.

i hope everyone who got one of mine enjoyed it. =oD

Huh? I must've missed this one somehow.

I recieved two out of five....and sent my five early last week....I hope that people recieved them...and if possible liked the mix...

The two I recieved were great - little gifts from people I have not met...

I made some comments here about some possible improvements...

To add - I found it great fun making the mix....very different from my usual progressive/trance DJ job...theres a hint for anyone who didn't like it!

An excellent and successful operation on my end. I think I got all of mine, but I lost count somewhere because someone sent me *three* discs instead of just one. Beautiful, too, with nicely designed covers. In fact, the amount of work that went into these CDs was amazing. In a curious statistical anomaly, two of the CDs came from the UK.

In sending mine out, I resisted the urge to make and mail an all-Creed disc and then follow-up with the real compilation a few days later...

I sent out 5, and recieved only 1.

I should add, that despite the poor result for me, I am fully behind the idea of holding a MeFiSwap II.
posted by riffola at 5:33 AM on May 17, 2002

Worked out great here, eyeballkid and dong_resin's mixes were especially good. BTW, riffola, I have your CD, I just need you to resend your address as the address you originally sent it to is dead and inaccessible. Stav, send me an addy and I'll send you one of my mixes. I know we're on the same wavelength.

I second riff's endorsement of a MefiSwap II.

MeFiSwap II will rule the earth with a firm yet fair fist. I've only got three too but they're all acts of musical genius. Jonmc, that Ambrose song haunts me.

I'd like to say what impecable taste all the MeFiosi have, good stuff.

I got 4, and they were all full of good music I'd never heard before. I'd be in for a part 2. Hope all my people got theirs...

For those playing along at home it would nice to see tracklists of the various mixes done ...... do these appear anywhere?

I want to be in on the next one...someone let me know how to sign up.

This is ironic, considering I've been taken to task for mentioning my collections *ahem* diversity before but for the curious, I've blogged the tracklist of the CD I sent out here.

I am so guilty here, I recieved three great mixes and have yet to get mine done. I have been experiencing murphy's law like problems with my CD burner/software. My old one kept leaving skips on it. Got a new one from DELL. Installed it, but win 98 didn't recognize it. Reloaded windows still no luck. Upgraded to winxp pro. Now the burner works but software I have doesn't. Anyway, I hope to have it straightened out soon. My deepest apologies to everyone on my list.

My burner broke down after burning the first disc. Feel guilty, but unable to do a lot about it at the moment. Have yet to contact my swap-ees.

I'm not even sure if I got all of them. I was actually part of two cd swaps with five other MeFites at the time. I know I got most of them.

And starvros, if you wanna swap, mail me your address.

I third riffola's suggestion of a second swap. The vote is on the floor.
posted by eyeballkid at 9:34 AM on May 17, 2002

i would recommend that the swap actually be a SWAP, meaning i send a cd to the people who send me one. i was a bit baffled when the 5 people i was supposed to send to were not the 5 people i was receiving from.

as an aside, i joined 3 swaps this year, including the mefi one. the two other ones resulted in me getting DREADFUL mixes. i could make a career in standup just reading the track lists. the mefi ones were more thought out and the bands more obscure, which i thought was the point, so that was cool. i believe i've only received 3 of the 5, though.

I received three mixes. It's kind of a drag not getting all five, but I'd still participate in the next round.

I missed the first one, but I'll join a second one....

And can we make sure the next one doesn't result in mysterious "I signed up but apparently I'm not signed up" situations? I had plans, tracklist and youthful exuberance all queued up, but then somehow didn't make it into the final database.

Who is it that runs this thing? Is there an associated mailing list or something?

I'm a different kind of delinquent. I sent out mine promptly, and I've gotten (I think) 2 in return. But I've been so busy I haven't listened to them--so I've failed to send appropriate thanks.

I'll listen to them all on my vacation next week, the tracklists look excellent.

...Still, faulty hardware aside, welchers should be shot.

I had surgery and my apartment flooded, essentially stranding my cd's in boxes. Lame excuses I know, but I have a mix planned and will get it off.

I received all 5, and couldn't be happier with the content.

I'm not a welcher, just really, really, slow.

Wow that's a great looking mix, jonmc. Can anyone else post theirs? Just curious to see what's being traded...

i am definately up for mefiswap II

i'm a little hesitant to make this public after jonmc's awe-inspiring tracklist, but since someone asked, this is the little shindig i put together.
posted by carsonb at 3:00 PM on May 19, 2002

I got jonmc's cd and awe inspiring it is too. If you ask for it make sure he takes the 'Ambrose' track off, it'll ruin your life! Here's mine, less impressive but still just about there.

I'm not a welcher, just really, really, slow.

I'm with sauril on this. I feel really bad about not getting the mixes out yet (have the CD done, though not copied yet), having stalled when trying to work out the cover art and just Not Getting Around To It. Bad me.

Then again, I've yet to recieve any CDs. Bad others.

I like the above-mentioned idea of a direct swap. Allows a sort of direct line of communication -- and a more directly reciprocal sense of responsibility (read: motivation to not be a such a lazy ass).

Man - I clearly don't know jack all about music anymore. I got to track 9 on Ned's list before I knew which side was the song title and which side the artist. I feel like my dad.

Mine's here. I really enjoyed doing it (and receiving the few that have arrived so far - I'll try to thank you all individually when I sort my head out. Sadly I've been working on the head-sorting project since the late 70s with no progress so far, but thanks all of you).

I'd definitely be up for another round.

And seeing the fun you're all having I'd like to join in if there's to be another. I have some odd music, if that helps.

I sent out five, got five back. I'm getting to hear all kinds of music I never heard before and I'm digging it a lot, thanks to my swappers.

BTW, I don't have a tracklisting for the person that sent the "Liberal Arts" CD, it's like listening the the best radio station ever, and they never name the artist!!!! Help if you're listening.

Maybe I missed something, but jonmc's track list is pretty long. Y'all don't burn them as .CDA so they can be played, for example, in my shitty car CD player which doesn't recognize .MP3?

jonmc's track list is pretty long

i believe jonmc's disc was actually 3 cd's.
posted by carsonb at 9:43 PM on May 19, 2002

crash- I did burn mine as .mp3s to cram more tunes on. I figured then people could chop em up as they pleased to put on on discs for the car.

Kafkaesque sends out a good mix. Very Somber.
The Man In Black would approve. The other one, I mean.

I believe anyone interested already knows my feelings about Jonmc's disc. Ahem.

Eyeballkid and Jpolous both managed to have tastes similar to mine, but sent me nothing I already had. No mean feat.

I sent out my five...

and I got one in return....

But I've already got my next mix ready to go if there's ever a MeFi Swap II. I'm much the optimist.

i got 4 of mine, and the fifth person said she just sent it.. i was very impressed with all the mixes i got, especially eyebalkid's (i think that was who it belonged to..). i don't feel like blogging mine, so here's a quik tracklist of mine:
