"What's up with blogspot?" May 21, 2002 8:20 AM Subscribe
what's up with blogspot? many of my favorite blogspot-hosted weblogs are down (as is the homepage), but some blogs just won't go away. there's no mention of an outage or server crash on the blogger website or on evan's weblog. anybody know anything?
thanks, elizabeth. i didn't know to check there, being solely a consumer (never a producer) of blogger-facilitated content.
and now i see that they are all back up. no... wait... just yours. that's a neat trick. did you republish? is that why your blog shows up when nobody else's does?

if all blogspot-hosted blogs are going to come up 'page not found' until the owner republishes, then maybe this thread can serve a useful purpose in terms of alerting people to their need to do so.
otherwise... matt: please feel free to kill it.

Republishing brought back my front page, but my archives are fooked.
The permalinks to the archives work, but not the archives page and it's links, despite republishing everything.

It mangling the path:

It works if you remove one of the "/archives" bits.

Mine's up w/o republishing, but it is powered from a secret location deep within the Keebler Elf Tree, underneath tons of unsold E.L.Fudge Cookies.

Thanks for the heads-up. I wonder what effect this will have on the seemingly huge backlog of blogspot blogs that have been abandoned or are very very rarely changed. Maybe this outage will serve as a weeding out of sorts.

I had to tweak my archive template to point to the new location. Every was working the last time I looked...

I had the same thought bonheur, as i checked a friend's that hadn't been posted on in quite a while. Probably not a bad idea.

Poop. I had one (not that I ever did anything with it, really) and now it's gone. I'd fix it but I'm at work and blogger access is denied from here.
Double poop.

Rand Simberg has a bot that checks blogspot for outages. (On his home page, there's a stoplight that shows the status, and a downtime percentage of the last 24 hrs.) It doesn't seem to be aware of this particular glitch, though.

jonmc's blog was down Tuesday morning along with some others. It must have come back up by the time this thread was posted...

just for the record:
i don't wish jonmc's blog would go away. i was 'j/k', as the kids today are calling it.
also nortondc's, kafkaesque's, sugarfish's, bonheur's, feelinglistless', and ufez jones' blogspot-hosted weblogs are, of course, also personal favorites of mine. those that i linked in my post above were just a random sampling.
except, of course, for lizs'... which is my absolute favorite of all time.

and, not to be one of those people who turn thread-ends into chatfests, but this is thread 2222, which prompts me to ask: has anyone ever driven on fm 2222 out of austin (where it's called koenig lane) into the suburbs (going towards mount bonnell and 3m (why i've done it at the hour about to be specified) and the lake) right around dawn? it's an absolutely gorgeous view. actually, perhaps it's even more gorgeous coming the other way (i.e., going downhill, rather than uphill).
it's best in, like, mid-april. before it gets too hot and dry. the vegetation is lush and a rich blue-grey-green; the monsoon rains leave puffs of mist rising off the asphalt; the pollution from motorola and the airport in the east offers god/bob ross a wide array of colors with which to paint the horizon. and there's no traffic. try it sometime.
anybody else have a favorite dawn drive?
