Per Rotato Ad Astra! MefightClub's annual charity donation drive has just wound up for another year [last year] [2011] [2010], and we've raised $5292.66 to go to Child's Play and Direct Relief (with a sprinkling to other worthy charities as well).
This latest drive brings us up to a total of $19391.66 donated over the past four years, and I couldn't be more proud of the kindness and generosity of our gaming crew. Big hugs as always to everyone who kicked in to the pool, to everyone who donated independently, thanks again to frognuts for kicking off this year's drive, and special thanks this year to the folks who went above and beyond in rallying the troops. And thanks, as always, to Matt and the crew for Metafilter, without which MefightClub would never have been born.
This year was a bit fraught in terms of getting things rolling, thanks to the controversies and generalized bad feelings surrounding the Penny Arcade guys, who founded Child's Play. We verified early on that they are not directly involved in Child's Play and receive no benefit from donations to the charity other than reputation, but some of our members still felt uncomfortable with the whole PA situation, so we went with Direct Relief as a second option, to great success.

We're mostly PC gamers (with some Mac and Linux folks), a lot of people play on consoles as well or even exclusively, and we have lively groups of board gamers and RPG people, too. If there's something you love, chances are somebody else will love it too, and wants to talk about it or play it with you. We're about 3000 people strong now, so there's a lot of diversity around the common enjoyment of gaming in general, and games aren't by any means the only thing we like talking about.

What games does mefightclub play?
What have you got?
We like flying terrible airplanes.
We like driving cars.
We like being dragged into a war between our sisters, fighting our son in law, stabbing our cousins and accidentally becoming King of France.
We also love cards, crawls, Creepers, tiny balls, beards, hats and impenetrable UIs.
And that's just on the PC.
You should come over. The only thing you have to lose is all your free time.

I sort of hit the wall on it with the Extreme stuff and am afraid to go back for a while lest I find myself five hours gone on endless revving and resetting and nary a new bronze medal to show for it. I think I'll be playing something more carefree and forgiving for a while, like Spelunky or Dark Souls.

When is the next MeFight Club TF2 sesh? I'm a casual TF2 player and I have signed up for MFC (and I think I have the server in my favorites list?) but whenever I look no one is on.
