International MetaFilter MEETUP Day is only 28 days away

So far, 98 members have signed on to meet their local friendly MeFi gang members. Who else is up for a little excitement?

Damn, I feel so faraway in Lisbon. I'm tempted to hop over to London as the crowd there is topp and whizz for atomms(as any fule no).

I noticed a few people added cities that were suburbs around bigger cities (like Rolla, MO -- which correct me if I'm wrong, but is near Jefferson City). If people were willing to commute say 20 minutes to a bigger city, the response might be greater.

If I could somehow find the interface to change my location, I'd be joining the nearby SF event. At the time I signed up, I seemed to be automatically shunted to the East Bay. Unfortunately, the meetup UI leaves a lot to be desired and after 10 minutes of flailing around with it I've given up.

Looks like it's you and I for D/FW meet up, dejah! Where's the rest of the yee-hawers?

I'd be up for it, but doesn't look like anyone's near me (Buffalo, NY). There's one person in Ithaca, which is three-hours-plus away; that's it.

I could do Toronto.... there's got to be MeFi'ers in Ontario, eh?

*proceeds to try and figure out how to add a thread to the Meetup page... bah... too sleepy*

They seem to have rejected the pinball meetup suggestion I sent them last month. Bah.

hey ufez and dejah - check out dfwblogs.com. a majority of people on that list read metafilter if they are not members. we get together once a month already. sometimes we even discuss metafilter.

Agreed. I moved myself from SF to NY. How? Removed myself from the system then signed up anew.

I didn't know about it (not been paying attention - missed mefiswap II as well. Bum) and probably would have missed it since I'm a teetotaller and a bore, but the possibility of Senor Cardoso quoting Molesworth is almost irresistable.

Philadelphia is not represented; looks like I remain a Lone Woof.

I no longer hale from the green, green hills of Austin. I left for love. You can find me in the bayou now.

You can come to the dallas one if you'd like, ash. I know, it's not as 'cool' as Austin, but, uh, well....
posted by Ufez Jones at 6:41 AM on July 9, 2002

coldchef: you know and i know that the hills of austin sure as hell ain't green at this time of year. do you really miss the brown hills and 115-degree heat?

(let's be honest here, cc, what you really miss are the girls on the ut campus. but don't worry; i won't tell the future mrs. chef.)

So anyone else in Yellowknife? Anyone...? Aw :(

Right now, the green hills of Austin are actually underwater (okay, New Braunfels, but it's close). Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go think about those ut ladies in wet, clingy, burnt orange clothes.

I miss Austin.

And that's how I ended up in the concrete jungle and white picket hell of the Metroplex. :) I miss Austin too, but I miss the Austin of the 80's...underground comics, underground clubs, no silicon gulchies driving the real estate up to ungodly heights, being able to live in Leander surrounded by nothing but other farms and dinosaur tracks...smoking a joint at the Hole in the Wall, dropping acid at Zilker, pavement surfing with the Skatenigs, playing games with the Steve Jackson crowd, and hanging out at Butthole Surfer parties...old Austin...I miss old Austin. (Or maybe I just miss being that young...that could be it. heh.)

If I still hailed from Philthy, I would have been down (and dogmatic too), but since we moved on up to the east side, count me and the lil' lady for NYC. If we can get babysitting. Any volunteers?

Ratbastard, SapphireBlue, myself, and a random rotating band of of other local Washington, DC bloggers and groupies (hi Liz :) have a regular hang every Friday evening at Atomic Billiards, 3427 Connecticut Ave., NW.

No need to wait weeks and weeks to imbibe, play pool, throw darts and have close encounters with crazy old ladies when we head out for the late dinner.

People start arriving around 6. Ask bartender Rich to point you to the bloggers.

Yellowknife? OMG, that's so unbelievably cool! What do you get up there DSL or 56?

Anybody up for a meet in Iqaluit? That would be so hot. JK!

I'm in Montreal, but will be in Toronto late July for the Pope, hoping to hook up with some girls at Youth Day.

Somebody has to post this to MeFi so it can really take off. Juliebug is also in Montreal but I doubt she's aware of the meet.

Milwaukeeans? Hello? Anybody? Just me and jsapn so far. I know there are at least two more of you out there (ahem, mimi and drezdn). There must be others. Any suburbanites care to join us? Or is everyone going to be too busy at the Fair? :)

(It's not like I need an excuse to hit the bars or anything, but it sounds like fun.)

It's on the sideblog already. People do check the sideblog don't they? Maybe the notice needs to be highlighted? Or made into blinking text? Or dynamically size-altered to make it expand to fill the screen for a few seconds every two minutes?

Ach, all the best ideas get left out in the cold.

Hole in the Wall shut its doors for good the other night, Dejah420. Sad times.

I'd love to go to the Dallas meet, but I'll have to see what my schedule's like for August; I've just started a new job, and getting time off is pretty impossible right now, but I'll know August 1 for sure. In the meantime, if anyone wants Austin...just let me know!

Wow - so few San Jose folks in the hizzouse? Or is everyone on the south side of the bay mysteriously choosing to converge upon SF instead?
