List your stuff in the MeFi Mall! November 4, 2014 2:43 PM   Subscribe

For the last several years, we've built the MeFi Mall to showcase holiday gift ideas made by MeFi members. This is your annual reminder to get your stuff for sale listed in the MeFi Mall by following the link and submitting your one-line write-up of what you're offering for sale. Thanks!

Also: we have last year's data still around, if you want us to just re-up it exactly as it was before, the new listing form will ask you about it and show you your old entry.

If you're new to the whole thing there are some details on past malls in this post from last year.

Can we have a MeFi Mall micro banner at the top of the pages?

It can go just below the Help Fund MetaFilter micro banner.

That would be awesome. Thanks!

So, weird, very specific question: not online, but orderable by email, but deliverable only in Japan, and, uh, meat. I'm starting up a craft meat business in Japan, and was wondering if I might be able to put up a thing in the store for mefites in Japan who might be interested in holiday meat (it's a thing in Japan, I swear). Would this be kosher (even if the meat in question is very explicitly not kosher)?

That sounds fine, Ghidorah. If you just put this info on a web page somewhere you'll be set. We only allow 100 words or so in the mall and I'm guessing you'll want to describe it in more detail. Google Sites is one place where you can put up a page for free.

Thanks, pb. I'll try to put something together.

Sweeeeet. I just updated my listing to reflect the fact that, sadly, my "11th Doctor" bow tie is no longer wildly popular. And that I hope to have a couple of other things available in my shop in time for the holiday rush. Thanks as always - I *love* seeing people use the MetaFilter secret handshake coupon code!

Sure, we can edit things.

Maybe this would be a good time to re-visit my post from earlier in the year about keeping the MefiMall year round? Seems like it was a popular idea but then Apocalypse Google hit and so on and so forth.

I am totally in favor of that, which is easy for me to say :)

We already do keep the MeFi Mall page up year round. And this holiday reboot time helps ensure that people who have new/updated locations get things updated. Last year's store is archived here and we have them going back a few years. The mall doesn't ever really go away.

The mall doesn't ever really go away.

QFMFT

In far too many ways.

MetaFilter is not one of those.

We already do keep the MeFi Mall page up year round.

It would be nice for it to be an always-on thing that was always promoted in some specific way where you didn't have to look for it in the FAQ and whatnot. I don't know/remember what the archiving process was, but I think just having one page and not archiving-by-year where people were responsible for their listing would go a long way towards what I think nevercalm is asking for. Please consider having a way for the mall and the maintenance of the mall be an ongoing thing. Thanks.

Oh hey this year I finally have something to post! After being frustrated in the search for a cool shower curtain, I discovered that CafePress makes pretty nice ones, inspiring me to revive my store.

Here 'tis. I am adding more stuff right now. I can vouch for the shower curtains.

Is there a link to the Mall anywhere besides within this MeTa? Jessamyn mentions the FAQ above, but I don't see anything there either.

No, we don't have a link to the Mall up anywhere yet. We'll get that added this week.

I think that's the ask: can we have a MeFiMall page up and functional year round and linked someplace public on the site? I would like that. I think other people would like that.

Any updates on getting a visible link to the mall? The Secret Q deadline is really early this year, so it would be nice for it to be easier for us to shop with each other sooner rather than later. All the nifty things everyone has for sale are inspiring!

I spoke too soon when I said it would be last week. We have some other things in the hopper.

I added a link to the MetaTalk sidebar under Other. We'll have something a bit more visible soon.

Oh, feel free to mention/link to the Mall in any of the open Secret Q threads too. That's a great idea.

I take it this is for physical objects, not apps or the like?
posted by JHarris at 1:10 PM on November 19, 2014

The mall was put up for physical things but I think apps are still in the spirit of things mefites "make and sell online". It feels less good to me to put something a company you work for made in the Mall. I'd say if it was a one-person effort, go for it.

Was thinking about my one-man-made Android game Octropolis, it's pretty much a Pac-Man homage. Will see about posting it.

I designed this poster for Numberphile, is that something I could submit?
