Mefites' Choice 2014 winners, Week Three December 22, 2014 12:35 PM   Subscribe

It's week three of the December Best Post contest (reminder: please vote for the posts you like most via the fantastic flag, and if you are so inclined, sign up on the Wiki to contribute a prize!) and I've got the winners for the week. The top post for the week is Rhaomi's comprehensive salute to Stephen Colbert. For the prize, Rhaomi can pick out anything from the Mefi Mall up to $25 from me.

The second prize is a tie! There's Greg Nog's heartfelt plea for Cortex to stop doing what he is doing oh my God the humanity, and there's filthy light thief's extensive history of Mel Brooks's Young Frankenstein. Both filthy light thief and Greg Nog will get their choice of items from the Mefi Mall up to $10, and the thanks of a grateful nation.

We've got more prizes coming next week, and a whole raft of whole-month themed prizes. Please feel free to add more to the wiki, and polish up your posts for week four!

Here are the winners for the Disney DVDs. I had a hard time choosing so I'll award a surprise 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place. Winners will select titles - should they wish to receive the award - in order, e.g., first place gets first choice from the 4 DVDs, 2nd place gets to choose next, etc. (Hope that's clear.)

Congratulations to everyone, your excellence made this difficult for me:

FIRST PLACE: filthy light thief, Young Frankenstein at 40: not so young, but still Brooks' finest film

2nd Place: Behind the scenes at the Kew Royal Botanic Gardens - rollick

3rd Place: Ghostly in the air - Monsieur Caution

4th Place: Power of Art (Simon Schama) - cwest

Great job!

Honorable mentions: I found these to be excellent contributions. 🏆

Xmas foods/ Mystery Science Theater 3000

It's All About That Neis

Candy canes

Not everyone needs a hug

"How can they possibly believe this shit?"

"Stephen Colbert": Great host? Or *the greatest* host?

DVD titles are in NTSC format (American format) and can be seen on the Wiki here. I will Memail the winners.

I kind of expect him to freak out a bit and just say "Christ is / Christ is / Satan's power / walking in a winter wonder / Jesus." Or just "hail satan."

And congrats to all! (And you're too kind!)

The wiki is updated, though SpacemanStix needs to identify his favorite (or talk to the mods re: fantastic flags).

My pick is 23's post entitled I Have Created 50 Games This Year. The content it links to is great, and Jharris has a few really nice comments, also.

Thanks, everybody. Honestly, I thought the Colbert post ended up kind of sloppy, since I spent waaay too much time staring at various Comedy Central pages waiting for the video to load and didn't have time to polish it, but it's a testament to the strength of the material that people loved it that much despite the bare-bones laundry list format. Special thanks to TVTropes, whose various "crowning moments" pages for the show filled in the gaps in my memory for the more recent years where I didn't watch as regularly.

(Fun fact: My very first post -- almost exactly seven years ago! -- was about how Stewart and Colbert were dealing with the ongoing writers strike. Aw, that scrawny little above-the-fold... they grow up so fast...)

Sure! I'll be in touch re: what DVD you want, and the address you want me to send it to. I've sent a memail to rollick and am waiting to hear back, but given the busy holiday season, that might not be until the new year. Hope you can hold on.
