What does the P in SLNYTMP stand for?

There are a lot of great acronyms on the front page these days, but in this case I have to admit that I was as confused as ever. I think I understand the first six letters of the acronym: SL, that means single link, even if that isn't quite true; NYT, well, that's New York Times, of course – and with an M, I think it's pretty clear that's New York Times Magazine (which, of course, the poster has handily italicized to set it apart from the rest of the acronym.) But I can't quite figure out the last letter.

Part of the confusion, of course, is that, like almost every acronym on the front page, this one isn't correct, is it? The "SL" stands for "single link" – but there are in fact two links in this post, one to the New York Times Magazine and the other to Wikipedia. So really, as far as I can tell, the acronym ought to be DLNYTMAAWAW, which stands for double link New York Times Magazine and also Wikipedia as well.

Incidentally, I have been thinking that one of the nice things about acronyms is their compactness and efficiency of expression; you can always add more letters if you want to say more without having to add a lot of long words. They're clearly much better, much more expressive, than simply writing the source of the link in the post, like [Youtube] or [New York Times Magazine]. Here some handy acronyms I imagine people might wish to use to help others understand what their post is about:

TLYTVYPASOF - triple link Youtube videos you probably already saw on Facebook
DLTATTFOAL - double link Twitter accounts that tweet funny observations about life
QLHASPOC - quadruple link here are some pictures of cats

As you can see, the possibilities for acronyms are endless. I imagine soon we'll be able to SWOOPAJUA (stop writing out our posts and just use acronyms), since TWWMB (that will work much better). Maybe WCEFAWTDTWCAW (we can even find a way to do this with comments as well). The sky's the limit!

Still not entirely sure what that "P" stands for, though.

I also read it as "post." Like "this here is a single link NYT Magazine post." But piece or politics makes sense too.

Not that you were seriously asking.

Yes, the SLYT-spawned acronyms are stupid and pointless, as they always have been. No, it's not worth caring about.

Ah, but it's a great idea to have a "P" at the end there that means "post." Otherwise people might not know what it is they're reading. They might think they're reading the back of a cereal box, or a newspaper, or an eleventh-century manuscript from Cordoba. Nope – it's a post!

If initialisms on metafilter are at all similar to acronyms for clinical trials, then the answer is it stands for what you want it to. Here's a particularly convoluted example that my department's been working on lately: SABRtooth

Ned G, I remember my friend the medical student (now doctor) who would get all indignant and superior when I'd ask him what all the acronyms stood for, with which he had begun liberally peppering his conversation. In the end, he sheepishly admitted he had no idea about most of them.
