It saddens me greatly to say that Cheerwine passed away last week.
I don't know how well-known his username is, but I do know that this community was very important to him. He read almost everything on the green and the blue and the gray. We used to talk about metafilter often, always fondly. He was a dear friend to many, and he is very missed. Please feel free to memail me if you knew him.

His last post, while about something seemingly mundane, led me to a whole lot of thought about how I'm playing life on easy level and here's someone that's not, but is super tough and game about it. I shared it with my wife and we talked over it.

As a friend of Cheerwine's for over ten years, and a (usually pretty quiet) member of this community, I want to thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. It's always so eerie when somebody is active online, just posting about this and that, and then they suddenly die. His last post was just a few weeks ago, asking about getting through airport security. That's the kind of question you ask when you're in the middle of living life, getting things done. And then he's just gone.
But I suppose it's better to go that way than with a long, sad series of asks about strange coughs, chronic pain, hospices, wills. There's much to be said for just living your life until you suddenly aren't.
