Consider heading over to IRL and posting a mefi ice cream social meetup

Plant-based icecream socials are totally cool, too!

I would post a meetup to Maud's Ice Cream Cafe in Belfast except no-one would come as I live on the edge of the world so I'd have to eat all the ice cream myself...brb

I'd post one to Olufs Is here in Copenhagen... but sadly for some weird reason they aren't open yet this season. Maybe someone else has a better plan?

Billiebee make a lil holiday to London and come join ours 🍦

Ok, so you know how sometimes at a local coffee shop there are regulars, often old timers, who meet there every day at a certain time and talk about local issues and about the good old days? So I have to drive past a Carvel every day if I am going to this one place. I always looked longingly at the place as I drove by. I changed my schedule recently and was going by a little earlier. Turns out that for 7 straight sunny days, there have been these 4 men in say their late 60s or early 70s eating cups of ice cream. They seem to have a regular gig. I have this fantasy that they walk in to the store, sidle up to the counter and say, "The usual". Or, maybe, at one of the small tables outside I will see as I drive by a "Reserved" sign.

Anyway, yeah, ice cream!

greenish I am not joking when I say that I priced flights!! Alas it is mid-week and I couldn't get the time off, but I swear the next London weekend meetup I will be informing my brother that I'll be staying on his couch so that I can meet people off of the internet.

I will happily eat ice cream with mefites in Copenhagen when summer finally gets here. I've been assured it's on its way.

I am considering putting together an ice cream crawl for Camberville (Boston), but still working on how to make it less walking (although 5 ice creams for 4 miles and a solid 1.5 hours of walking sounds not-unreasonable....)

Also, how the hell do I avoid rain that far in advance?

step one: build a supervillain's machine to control the earth's weather

step two: pull lever

still working on how to make it less walking

We did a Biscuit Harvest Festival here in NC some time ago where we just had people bring biscuits from their favorite places and then we all shared once we got together. You could do something like that.

Maybe we should do something like that...

There's enough ice cream here. But there aren't enough MeFites.

I might actually show up for a meet up at Seattle's Molly Moon or Bluebird or Full Tilt or Gelatiamo or Lick Pure or Old School Frozen Custard or one of the many other heaven havens here.

Rock Steady, I just checked out the biscuit harvest festival thread. I didn't see the results of the (surely rigorous and not at all enjoyable) tasting analysis on research monkey's blog. Might you remember the gist of the conclusions?

Oopsie. I promise to do biscuit data entry this weekend. Really.
From a quick eyeballing analysis I was surprised at how well Biscuitville biscuits did - biscuits were sourced from Big Ed's, Biscuitville, NC Farmers Market Restaurant, Rise, and Scratch. Biscuits were rated for tenderness, texture, and flavor. I think some biscuits just don't travel well, and are best consumed as soon as it's deposited in front of you, but fast food biscuits may be designed to withstand some travel.

It was summer this afternoon shelleycat

then it rained on me biking home.

Thank you, rm! And by all means don't go doing a blog post just b/c I mentioned it, it was just idle curiosity from a fellow NC'ian. Sounded like such a fun idea & a great time!

I want to say Rise came out generally on top, but it was far from a scientific analysis - some of the biscuits had stuff on them, some were plain, etc. It was really just an excuse to eat an otherwise embarrassing number of biscuits.

I keep refreshing this in hopes that either everybody had matching towels or duffell, both of whom I know are excellent and adventurous ice cream makers, will have posted something, but so far no. It's cool guys. We're totally still friends, almost definitely.

Fresno has been proposed. Posting here in hopes it generates enough buzz to get at least one reply.

Fresno is a last stop big city en route to some lovely national parks. AND it gets really hot there. Sounds like the perfect place for an ice cream social!
posted by aniola at 4:48 PM on June 18, 2016

It is supposed to be over 100° every day for the next week here in Fresno. Seems like a great time for an ice cream. :-)

I headed north to Portland drear so I wouldn't have to water my garden, but I sure miss that Central Valley sunshine! Not even kidding.

Perhaps after the bullet train goes online. :-)

The summer is young. My schedule is flexible. No rush.

But thanks for thinking of me.
