MefiReply Userscript January 3, 2018 1:05 PM   Subscribe

MefiReply is a new userscript for quote-replying to comments. It works on all Metafilter subsites in both Modern and Classic modes. If you have Tampermonkey or Greasemonkey, you can install it by visiting this page.

Select the portion of a comment you want to quote or just click [reply] to include the whole thing. It will prepend a link back to the original comment.

There's a demo on the Projects post. It's functionally similar to MefiQuote for Modern. I've tested it in Chrome and Firefox. Should function in other browsers, too.

Check out john hadron collider's mefiscripts repository for more Metafilter-specific userscripts, including another I recently wrote to automatically redirect you from the homepage to your 'My Mefi' page.

Cheers!

I can't get the script to load into Greasemonkey. Any script even. Am using FF Quantum ... is that the problem?

There is currently a bug in Firefox that prevents automatic installation of userscripts hosted on GitHub. I believe they plan on fixing it in the next version. If you want to use this with Greasemonkey, what you can do is this:

1. Enter in your address bar:
about:config
2. Search for:
security.csp.enable
3. Toggle its value from 'true' to 'false'
4. Load the raw userscript page and click to install
5. Toggle the security.csp.enable value back from 'false' to 'true'

The last step is IMPORTANT. Don't skip it.

Tampermonkey is fine, though.

Man, Chrome really doesn't like making imports smooth, does it?
