I missed the announcement about filtering out the U.S. politics thread from popular favorites, and--waka waka--what an improvement! I don't think I'd realized how much I missed using that as a window into MeFites' most interesting insights, funny stories, and generally awesome contributions.

Hey cortex, ever consider linking to your real-world creations in your profile? You've got a lot of digital and aural work, but none of your art. Just a thought.

Omg, me, too! I hadn’t clicked on popular in forever because it was useless. Thank you! Much improved!!

Yeah, Stanczyk, I totally should. I'm not shy about it, I just am way way overdue to update that part of my profile; thanks for the nudge!

Good suggestion for everyone to consider updating their profile pages. I know I don't look at mine nearly enough and I'm sure it could use a refresh.

Jessamyn has he bestest laugh?

:D I hear myself and I am like "Who let that chipmunk loose in here" so thank you!

I want a separate podcast devoted to Cortex explaining random Simpsons remixed art-projects to jessamyn.

This reminds me I keep meaning to join Learned League. Is there like, a mefi team or something?
posted by lazaruslong at 3:42 PM on July 7, 2018

There is no cabal MeFi LL team.

Is there like, a mefi team or something?

Not really. You're grouped according to whoever invited you (it's invite only but I could invite you or others could) and you play with those people. After your first season you're grouped according, loosely, to ability. However, if you are a person who donates at a slightly-higher-than-basic level you can join what is called a "private rundle" (rundle is the learned league name for
level") and then see how you would do when you played against other people you select. There are lots of different sorts of private rundles and I think there is a MeFi one but I haven't joined.

I have never seen the Simpsons in German, and my partner has never seen them in English or French. That means that we only have one shared Simpsons reference: saying „K.L.U.K.“ to refer to a thing one did that’s obviously a dumb thing to have done.

Oh my god, THANK YOU for the change to popular comments! Brilliant and amazing, makes my life 200% more cheerful.

It’s late for the thread, but since LL has neither an auto-renew nor any way to communicate to private rundle membership:

Registration is open and I’ve recreated the MetaFilter private rundle. If you’ve been in it before you know the registration code. (If not, MeMail me.)

It seems the edible spaghetti version of the Play-Doh Fun Factory can be referred to as a pasta extruder, or (based on some retail product names) pasta machine, pasta press, pasta maker, or pasta roller & cutter.

While looking that up, I also learned that there is such a thing as spaghettieis, which is a
German ice cream dish made to look like a plate of spaghetti. In the dish, vanilla ice cream is extruded through a modified Spätzle press or potato ricer, giving it the appearance of spaghetti. It is then placed over whipped cream and topped with strawberry sauce (to simulate tomato sauce) and either coconut flakes, grated almonds, or white chocolate shavings to represent the parmesan cheese.
Learned League sounds fun and while I'd love to participate, I also probably wouldn't do well with the hard deadlines until I'm able to free up some more time. So instead I'm cheering on all the MeFites involved. Go go go!

Thanks for another lovely podcast. Alternate title for this episode: "Well, That's Basically Helping."

You know, I'm not against removing the mega-threads from the Popular Favorites, but I feel like the text on that page should be updated accordingly? After all, it's no longer literally, "Popular posts and comments marked as a favorite most often in the past seven days. "
