rainbaby RIP December 4, 2020 7:37 PM   Subscribe

Facebook had been showing me a lot of pictures of rainbaby this week, and I soon learned it was thanks to friends and family mourning her passing on Dec. 1.

Meetups in Richmond have never been well attended, and there hasn't been one since 2017, but I recall seeing rainbaby at that last one and possibly an earlier one. It feels weird being the one to share this news, as we weren't close and she hadn't been active here in several years, but the pictures in my feed tell the story of a prolific stage performer who leaves behind many, many friends.

Her obituary is here.

I was not familiar with Jennifer, but as far as I am concerned, she was a MeFite, and that means she was a friend of mine.

Thank you for doing this. She was a friend of mine. We met here and on metachat and then she was one of the people at bunnystock, the great metachat weekend at my house in Asheville in, hmmm, 2006 I think. Or earlier? A long time ago now. Remember when we used to go off and spend a weekend with total internet strangers who then became lifelong friends? We kept up intermittently and I last saw her in 2017 when I was stuck in Williamsburg VA for a few days. She drove down from Richmond and we spent a day visiting old house museums and complaining about the barely veiled racism - we both liked history and architecture and old furniture but not so much tour guides who refer to a “community” of people on a plantation. . .

And then we drifted off again, occasional social media commenters on each other’s lives. I was so shocked to hear of her passing. She was lovely, so smart, very perceptive and quick, a born observer. My heart goes out to her family and closer friends, this was so sudden and so devastating. Goodbye Jen, you are missed.

I was very sad to hear this a couple of days ago. I didn't know rainbaby irl, but she was a radiant presence on my social media.

I drove down from Fredericksburg to a couple of Richmond meetups (before just moving to Richmond in 2017) and although I don't specifically remember meeting her I'm going to assume I did because she sounds like the kind of person I would want to know.

Her mefi activity and mine didn’t overlap, but reading about her, she sounds just wonderful. Too young. My thoughts to those aching right now.

She was in the MeCha fantasy football league that I ran for a few years. Gone way too soon. RIP Rainbaby.

It is a nice and very loving touch. My impression is that he was the one who wrote it.
