Fajita callout

To add to the guidelines: FPPs with food mentioned should be discouraged. Granted, I find "fajitas" as funny as the next guy and this issue, by any reasonable assessment, is ridiculous. But if people can't control themselves when the word "fajitas" is mentioned, then it probably shouldn't be mentioned at all.

It's not the fajitas, it's just saturday. Threads never go anywhere on a saturday. Just watch and see where this thread goes, for example.

pitchblende: None taken. In fact, despite initial hesitations, this meta issue proved so important that I thought I'd take it to the masses.

To get to the meat of the MeFi thread, I had hoped to initiate a discussion on city politics and corruption, as seen through this example. But people overlooked the violence and the strange entitlement behind the assault for the fajitas.

It should be perfectly clear at this point that you are either for the fajitas or against the fajitas. However, the fajitas alone don't entirely constitute a black-and-white topic.

Of course, it probably would have been infinitely worse had the bag contained fajitas puercas.

I mentioned food in a thread. I learned my lesson. In fact, I'm going to avoid Mexican food for a month.

Speaking of food . . .


While visiting England, George Bush is invited to tea with the HRH The Queen.

President Bush asks her majesty's what her "real" leadership philosophy is. HRH replies that it is quite simply to surround herself with intelligent people. President Bush then asks how she knows if they're truly intelligent" I usually do so by asking them the right questions," says the Queen. "Allow me to demonstrate."

She then phones Tony Blair and says, "Mr. Prime Minister, please answer this question: Your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or sister. Who is it?"
Tony Blair immediately responds ,"Certainly, the child would be me, ma'am."
"Correct. Thank you and good-bye, Mr. Prim Minister" says the Queen. She hangs up and says,
"Did you get that, Mr. President?" "Yes, your Majesty. Thanks a lot. I'll definitely be using that one!"

Upon returning to Washington, President Bush decides he had better put the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to the test. He summons Jesse Helms to the White House and says:

"Senator Helms, I wonder if you can answer a question for me."
"Why, of coahse, Mistah President"... What's on yoah mind?"
"Uhh," says President Bush, "your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or your sister. Who is it?"

Helms hems and haws and finally asks:

"Can Ah think that ovah, Mistah President, and get back to you on it?"

Bush agrees, and Helms leaves. Helms immediately calls a meeting of other senior Republican senators, and they proceed to puzzle over the question for several hours, but nobody can come up with an answer. Finally, in desperation, Helms calls Colin Powell at the State Department and explains his problem. Senator Helms poses the question as follows:

"Now lookee heah, Collin, yoah mothah has a child, and yoah fathah has a child, and this child is not yoah brothah or yoah sistah. Who is it?"
Powell answers immediately, "It's me, of course, you dumb cracker."

Much relieved, Senator Helms rushes back to the White House and exclaims:

"Mistah President! Ah know the ansuh! Ah know who it is! It's Collin Powell!"

President Bush replies in total disgust: "Wrong, you idiot, it's Tony Blair!

My favorite Bush joke (and one of the more original, unlike sirmissy's which I heard with a different set of characters eons ago):

Bush and Cheney are at a restaurant for lunch. The waitress comes over and asks what they will be having.
Bush says, "I'll have a quickie."
The waitress steps back in disgust and says, "Mr. President, I thought that kind of piggish behavior went out with the last administration!"
She storms off and Dubya looks confused. Cheney shakes his head at the president and says, "George, it's pronounced QUICHE."

The reference to "the last administration" also helps to pry loose a giggle from some Bush-ites.
And considering this thread was supposed to be about FOOD, I was hoping this might help put the MeFi Express back up on the tracks (we got more people throwing themselves in front of it than L.A.'s Metrorail - local reference).

And, BTW, my favorite Michael Jackson joke: haven't heard a good one since he was black; maybe Tom Lehrer's right about satire being dead. Dang, I think I knocked over the train again...
