When will signups reopen?

MeFi/MeTa not taking new members - Any one got any idea how long for and what new gadgets we're expecting?

Mrs Twine42 is dying to get her hands on metafilter, but hasn't been able to for a while. Can someone help me so I get some peace? ;)

I'm waiting until I get some additional memory into this server, and also get some websites off the server (that are using bandwidth, resources, etc).

twine, I think it'll be a long time. Word on the street is that all the incoming Google revenue has mathowie into a downward spiral of drug-binging and sex-orgying. He's probably hepped up on goofballs as we speak, only remotely conscious of what's happening around him. (I've been told that his recent comments are the work of a so-called body double, which the real Matt hired, Saddam-style, to represent him here and keep up appearences.)

In retrospect, we all should have seen it coming. It was too much too soon. We can only hope that snorting lines of coke out of the cleavage of would-be models for breakfast gives Matt the happiness and satisfaction he was searching for. And we can also promise to be here for him when he returns; clean, sober and ready to start again.

The problem is that with more users, front page posts might need to be rationed or Metafilter could just be divided according to "preferences" -

"Welcome to the Metafilter family! - what's your preference? Arcana and curiousities? Domestic politics? Racy, slightly off color material? "War on Terror" misc. slaughter, and nation building? The environment? "Other"? "
