links breaking uup words make threads unfindable May 17, 2003 5:10 AM   Subscribe

The famous "bohemian rhapsody" post is utterly impossible to find with the normal search methods, due to the way the words are divided up into more than one hyperlink. If I didn't know it was y2karl's post I wouldn't have been able to find it at all. Also, search doesn't seem to let you search the text within the title tags, either.

If fixing the search mechanism is too difficult at least it should be known that such shenanigans with hyperlinking may doom your post to an un-Googlable balck hole.

Well I'm perplexed. I checked the spelling out numerous times before I submitted the thread, played with the search parameters and still nothing, and now it works. Oh well, I'm happy.

Don't know how Matt has it set up, but in at least one setup I know quite well, we have two title tags set in ColdFusion so search picks it up:

<title>Title here</title>
<CFSET title="Title Here">

(I think that's right; I don't have the code in front of me) Maybe that's what's needed for search to get the titles?

Many people forget to set the date range for the search. It defaults to one month.

a search for bohemian works fine for me.

I'll tweak the search to include the post titles (the things that show up in title tags).

I liked this thread better when it meant that there was another reason why y2karl's buttheaded posting tactics suck.
