Regarding this post: We've discussed problems with geocities links before. Unfortunately people are not requiored to have read that discussion before posting. Can we grep front Page posts for sites with limited bandwidth quotas (geocities and other known free hosting sites) and then at least warn the posters on the preview pane that they should probably get the google cash or try and find the content elseware?

Is this 'grep' something I need a linux box to know about?

OK I'll bite, exactly how do you get the google cash? Do you have to buy a ticket or run a race or what?

I wish I hadn't made that error... sorry (again). I thought the idea of Star Wars sound bites in Spanish was too good to pass up that I completely blanked on the reality of limited bandwidth.

I can't belive how FAST it went from reachable to non-reachable.... literally, about 1 minute.

More like eight, I think. I only mirrored the ones that I liked.

CrashFilter
posted by ColdChef at 2:11 PM on July 17, 2003

A crashfilter is a device I invented that goes in an automobile, between the driver's seat and the firewall. It is a mesh screen with sharp edges and a reservoir on either side, so as to, in the event of a violent accident, separate solids from liquids.

Maybe you could sell that to Volvo for their new safety concept car, Hildago. Would you end up with soup or stew in the reservoirs?

Something should added to the guidelines in regards to the stress of our regard: any personal site with galleries of mp3s or large gifs
and jpegs is toast post posted here. A brief explanation of bandwidth, in English dogs and cats can understand, and an explication of the dangers of too much collective attention in regards to Geocities and other such sites would be in order.
