Okay, I know I'm repeating myself, but here goes: we've got interest from norm, COBRA!, trharlan, ScottUltra, mrbula, Zosia Blue, Hammerikaner, Utilitaritron, specialk420, & me.
Of a short list of August dates offered, mrbula can ONLY do the 16th; Zosia B. has indicated it's a good date; I can make it. But we might lose COBRA!, which isn't optimal.
Should we try some September dates instead? Please give a shout as to which of these would work for you (and please specify all that would work, rather than just the best option):
Thursday, September 4
Friday, September 5
Saturday, September 6
Sunday afternoon, September 7
Monday, September 8
If none of 'em work for you, please offer an alternative range of dates!
Let's get this worked out--my offer to buy the first pitcher still stands. posted by clever sheep at 10:59 AM on July 31, 2003
The way my schedule works, I really will have no idea that far in advance. If I had to take a guess, I would go with the Sept.6 Saturday date, but Aug. 16 is still the optimal one for me (though we would be cobra-less which would be sad - a gathering without a reptile is never quite gathering). posted by Zosia Blue at 11:09 AM on July 31, 2003
Sept. 4 and 8 both work pretty well for me. There's a chance that I'll be doing an extended-weekend-out-of-town then, but if we settle a date pretty soon i could work around it. posted by COBRA! at 11:20 AM on July 31, 2003
Me 'n' COBRA! seem to have similar schedules. I prefer September 4 or 8 too. posted by norm at 12:30 PM on July 31, 2003
August is completely packed for me, but pretty much all of September is still open. posted by ScottUltra at 12:31 PM on July 31, 2003
Prefer weekends, but can neither confirm nor deny any dates as my girlfriend plans my social calendar. September looks cool, FWIW. posted by trharlan at 12:35 PM on July 31, 2003
Weekends are the best. Sept is also the best. posted by esch at 1:17 PM on July 31, 2003
The weekday September dates are open for me. (I have tentative plans for the weekend, but I don't know how those will work out yet.) posted by mrbula at 6:03 PM on July 31, 2003
Okay. How about September 4th? That seems to be an agreeable date, and it's close enough to the weekend for me to be satisfied. posted by Zosia Blue at 6:26 PM on July 31, 2003
Hmm, I only live about two hours drive away, but I don't really know any of you crazy shitheads. posted by angry modem at 8:09 PM on July 31, 2003
You're pissed, and you modulate, need I say more? posted by esch at 2:29 AM on August 1, 2003
Coming into this late, but I'd be interested in attending. 8/16 I'll be out of town; most of the Sept. dates look good to me, though Sat. nights tend to work less well. Either the 4th or 8th would be great. posted by Kat Allison at 5:51 AM on August 1, 2003
4th looks good for me.
And then.... where?
Angry M, don't worry. We might be crazy, but we're more like fuckbuckets than shitheads. posted by COBRA! at 7:20 AM on August 1, 2003
Wow, sounds like we're close to quorum for September 4. Zosia Blue, mrbula, Kat Allison, COBRA!, norm, me, maybe ScottUltra and trharlan (if his gf OKs it), and perhaps even esch and angry modem.
I'd still love to hear from specialk420, Utilitaritron, and Hammerikaner, but in the meantime sounds like we need to start figuring out a place!
Nominations so far have included Joe's Garage (near Loring Park), the Red Dragon (Lyndale), & solera (Hennepin & 9th street). All are Minneapolis so far--if that's a dealbreaker for St. Paulites, offer some venues near you! posted by clever sheep at 8:37 AM on August 1, 2003
One good St. Paul place is Chang O'Hara's, near cathedral hill. The atmosphere rules and they generally have pretty kick-ass music playing. posted by COBRA! at 9:02 AM on August 1, 2003
Joe's is a hoot. Best kitchen in town. Ike's could also be a possibility on off hours as it has become one of my fave watering holes, also serving some gourmet shit.
And there's always Lyle's in uptown. That's for if we decide to get really wasted! posted by trharlan at 9:22 AM on August 1, 2003
Ike's is cool, but I could see it being awkward for large groups.
Joe's sounds good. Or maybe we could do Nye's... posted by mrbula at 11:58 AM on August 1, 2003
Joe's and Nye's both sound like good options, esp. if we could get onto the roof at Joe's (I think someone mentioned Britt's* at some point, and the same thing goes there).
I haven't been to Ike's, but I've heard both wildly positive and wildly negative things about it.
And Lyle's would be cool as long as it wasn't in crowded-to-the-point-pf-bursting mode, which would make a meetup sort of problematical.
*Why do we name all of our bars with a possessive proper noun? posted by COBRA! at 12:17 PM on August 1, 2003
COBRA!: good points. I suppose we need a place that's neither dead nor crowded.
Not terribly easy to find. posted by trharlan at 12:31 PM on August 1, 2003
The Rock Bottom brewery on Hennipen, and The Local on 10th and Nicollet are usually pretty quiet on a Thursday.
There's also the added bonus of a selection of premiums for us beer snobs. posted by esch at 7:11 PM on August 1, 2003
How about having it in Madison? That would be a lot more convenient for me.
i'm jealous. everyone else is getting a 'shoutout' or something like that, usually hastily written on napkins. i only ask that you give me one, you know, if you happen to find a photogenically dog turd on the sidewalk (i want to look good)...
yeah, that'd be nice. posted by poopy at 9:01 AM on August 2, 2003
I'm totally not a boy. posted by Zosia Blue at 4:14 PM on August 4, 2003
Just in case we're shoved off the page soon: folks, I've made a list of everyone who's indicated interest. Close to Sept. 4, I'll a) start a reminder/confirmation Meta thread and b) send out reminder emails to everyone who's got an address in their profile.
Mark your calendars--I hope everyone can make it! posted by clever sheep at 4:52 AM on August 5, 2003
