Another opera 6.x user here. Yeah, it's been doing that for a looong time. Not that I'd spell check anyway, my spelling mistakes are artworks.
Yes, opera is still around, and gaining ground. It's available both as adware and for $35, though I got it for $15 or something like that on a student discount. And it's not crippled, it's light. Kitchen sinks are not necessary for web browsing.

You should never misspell.
Yeah, I hate it when people make mistakes.

Uh...Opera 7.2 works fine for me. No crippling, no crashing, no comment deleting.

I never said that. Opera has perfectly good javascript support, but every javascript implementation has it's weirdnesses, and those in the browsers with larger userbases have been worked around.
(not that it's not perfectly possible that this is being caused by a bug in opera, but the kitchen sink remark was a response to opera being called crippled, not to javascript spell check not working)
(also: I'm not getting into a browser holy war, especially not on MeTa. *gives timeistight a big hug*)

This happened a few time to me recently, use MIE. It was always my longer comments too. Took it as a sign for me to not post a "long winded" comment.
