Does anyone want to meet up? March 14, 2001 8:02 PM   Subscribe

Having just come back from meeting Matt and many other MetaFilterites at SXSW, (MeFi actually got name-checked on damn near every panel I attended...) I'm curious to see who would be interested in having some sort of in-person gathering where we could all get together to meet.

Or maybe even multiple ones, in SF NY and Austin, say...? Would anyone be up for that sort of thing? And what would we call it? MeFiFoFum Day?

We would, of course, call it Meatfilter.

I've been meaning to do this before I leave Paris in June, so this is as good as place as any to invite everyone to Paris. All bloggers, web loggers, writers, site keepers, code geeks, desk jockeys, trolls, flamers (both kinds), lurkers, etc., in and around Paris and all of Europe are invited. Let's call it the European Meatfilter, with the slogan "That's not foot-and-mouth! That's just herpes."

Sunday, April 8, 2001, 7 p.m. Cafe Oz, 18 rue St Denis, 75001, Paris, France. Metro stop Chatelet or Les Halles on the 1, 4, 7, 11 or 14 lines and on the A, B and D RER lines.

It's the same day as the Paris Marathon, so there's a double draw for you. A friend from New York will be running so we'll celebrate his 4,597th place finish at the bar Cafe Oz, a harmless Australian bar with a good mix of French and Anglo clientele, on the edge of the Chatelet-Les Halles pedestrian district and a few minutes from Le Marais.

I cannot host you good people in my tiny studio home, but I'd love to have everyone join us for an evening of Victoria Bitter in cans, Foster's on tap (if you can stand it), and the best grecque frites in Paris just a couple of doors down.

Please copy this message and send it to friends (particularly those in Europe), link to it, or otherwise promote the event.

Toss in a Toronto one and you've got yourself a deal. :-)

Actually, it'd be interesting if we could establish some kind of cross-party communication, even if it's just webcams and voice over ip hookups.

I'm open for just about any locale... If you'd like, I could do one at Sundance in the spring. Otherwise, I travel all over, and would love to meet-up with other MetaFilistines... count me in!

I am small and eminently bendy. If someone would carry me in their luggage, I could swing Paris.

Wow. I've been seeing these references to metatalk for ages but for some reason never actually noticed the "MetaTalk" link in the navigation banner - or, at least, was never sufficiently curious to go check it out. I'm just incurious and set in my ways, I guess.

Anyway, I'd love to attend a gathering like this. I miss the old BBS days when movie nights and monthly picnics were the norm. If held in Seattle I'd attend no matter what; if in San Francisco, a few weeks' notice would be nice...

I'm sticking to "Metafilterians", by the way.

Metafilistines, dammit! Metafilistines!

Whatever word I happen to be thinking of, my fingers always want to type MetaFisters.

I don't know what that means.

I'm down for anywhere West Coast-ish. LA, SanFran, Seattle....what do ya'll think?

I'm definitely up for Seattle and maybe even SF, depending on the timing. Unless of course anyone objects.

The quake certainly showed that there are quite a few of us hanging out in Seattle.

I'm in the SF Bay Area, and up for any kind of gettin' together anybody wants to do. Someone just say the word!

I think there's enough of us in Minnesota and surrounding parts to fill a table at a pub.

As long as nobody's offering spare luggage space for now, Seattle would be cool for me.

Now all we need is for Matt to link to this thread in the side-blog in MeFi proper. :-)

I'm too broke to afford transcontinental plane fare, and neither small nor emininently bendy like Skot so someone's luggage space is out of the question, but if anyone wants to come over to Manila (or anywhere else around here, like the fabulous beach resorts in the north of the country, like Boracay or El Nido or Pearl Farm), I'm game!

All you MetaFilistines in other parts better snail-mail me postcards if you end up going to a MeatFilter!

Or Michigan.

Actually, there's at least two of us here in Lansing Metro. Although we've never met. Have we?

(Anybody want to make up a little interactive map thingy where we can go and indicate where we're from? Now I'm all curious about the geographical distribution of MetaFilistines.)
