Is MetaTalk anyone's favorite? March 16, 2001 7:52 AM Subscribe
Is anyone so hard-core into the community and MetaTalk that they actually start their browsing here instead of in the Filter? I may not be far from it. I find myself participating more over here.
MeTa seems to have become sort of a haven for the "sub 1000" group, as a quick scan of user id #'s reveals. As a newbie, I read here often but post less frequently, since the issues dicussed usually require more experience here than I've had. I can see why people gravitate here over time to get away from the noise and to exchange ideas with people they've become comfortable with.

Well, I recently added MeTalk (heh) to my Webcruiser (heh) list, so I don't have to manually visit. And based on the length of my comment in this recent feature-request post, I'm on my way to becoming a "hardcore" MeTalker.
I think that's a good thing--have to keep up with the trappings of my sub-1000 1337-ness, right?

gimli, I think it's more of a sub-1000 hang out because there was a long spell of time where MeTa wasn't really publicised beyond the lonely l'il link at the top of the page. I know I rarely look at MeFi proper's link list, and stumbled across MeTa from a MeFi link.
I still start at MeFi then work into MeTa. At least that way I usually know what the various Etiquitte threads are about. :-)

I posted something here just as the site was taken down for the weekend. I guess it didn't make it.
Take my word for it though, it was truely profound, life-altering kind of stuff...oh well.

MeFi over time has become less of a cool-links repository and more of a discussion forum. Being non-American, many of the discussions are of limited interest to me.
I don't have time to wade through all the stuff there so I come here, see what some of the regulars are talking about over in MeFi, follow any links back to the main page which look interesting, then go to the main page and skim read the posts for any interesting links.
This isn't a problem for me, this is a community which is bound to evolve over time - I know there are many discussions going on about what we've become and where we're going which I tend to keep out of - but I've found that the best way to filter MetaFilter is to start here.
Oh, and this is where the cool kids hang out.
