Me and my sockpuppets were being jerks March 20, 2001 9:16 PM Subscribe
I, Free Speech aka Rightwinger aka Private Parts, was just having some fun and trying to add some levity to the site, sorry if I offended you Matt.
Oh, jokes. Okay. Go ahead, then. Everyone forgot all about your free pass. You should mention it first, next time, so when you begin to sound like an uneducated pre-teen with a phobic fixation on race, we can just wave you on through. Cause, boy, now that we know it was a joke, that stuff is just rich, great award-winning comedy. You're so funny. Wooh, I hurt from laughing. Wow.

FreeSpeech, is this an apology? Should we be charitable and assume you're for real here? It would be nice if we could get something constructive from all this, but you haven't actually built up a reservoir of trust.
Why did you think the site needed "levity," anyway? It's not as if it's a particularly solemn place. If you were to rejoin, would you do anything differently?

FreeSpeech,
You offended many people and then self rightously defended your offensive behavior with little regard of the community of people that share this space. We care about metafilter very much, and your 'having some fun' creates serious disturbances and frustration all around. Your 'levity' was selfish, inconsiderate, and inappropriate. Your apology is too little too late.

Oh, yes, I always think racist jokes are hilarious.
So in other words you're a self-admitted troll. This never goes away -- some goombah with a modem thinks the people on his Tee Vee screen are just pixels bits and bytes and he can fuXor with them however he wants.
No thanks. Grow up or go away.

The World Wide Web is just as it's advertised...
World....Wide....Web. If you care to check it, Metafilter and Metatalk are seen as being "community" weblogs, that is, a lot of people posting that seem to have some or many interests in common. You, FreeSpeech, aka Private Parts (ew), Rightwinger, Pastor-whatever, should be able to deduce that by Metafilter community members' responses to your lamer trolling posts, you are not welcome in this community. So take your rightwinger troller comments somewhere else. Even better, start your own community weblog, where you can embrace and entertain folks who think, act and make comments like you & yours. We don't need ya here!

If you needed a group of people to practice your comedy routine in front of...couldn't your family, friends and/or peers have served the same purpose?
Because they are the people who traditionally have to put up with one's "coming of age" antics, as facile and time-consuming as they invariably are.
