Metatalk 404 error June 15, 2001 9:28 PM Subscribe
I keep getting the following when accessing Metatallk:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error Occurred While Processing Request
Error Diagnostic Information
An error has occurred.
HTTP/1.0 404 Object Not Found
Please inform the site administrator that this error has occurred (be sure to include the contents of this page in your message to the administrator).
Any idea why?

I get these regularly too. Happens whenever you click a link off the top MetaTalk page. It's quite intermittent; you can click the same link seconds later and sail right through.

Weird, it's never happened to me. If I can repeat it, I can fix it.

It's happened to me, too, from time to time. I think it's a ColdFusion issue. The CF server tends to get "confused". Are you running 4.5, Matt? Maybe an upgrade to 5.0 (dip into the scholarship fund?) would do the trick. Or maybe it just needs to be tuned up a little. Is it a Microsoft DB behind it?
It's only a rare occurance, though, and usually refreshing the page does the trick.
It's funny how, apparently, no one "informs the site administrator" when they get a 404.

I get Cold Fusion errors from time to time, but they're not like the the one quoted above, which looks like a standard HTTP server error.

You guys having the trouble could help matt find the problem if you would post the URL in the address bar when you get that error.

A little while ago I discovered the bug is so bad it sometimes diverts MetaTalk posts onto the MeFi front page ... discovered it when I actually ended up posting such a MetaTalk thread there.
All that happened is that Matt deleted the thread, haven't heard anything else about whether this is going to be fixed.
