Blogger vs. LiveJournal Webby War

Ev declares "war" on Livejournal. Yeah, they're pricks - but it may also smack of crass self promotion. Whaddya think?

I would just let them win, and know you won the moral victory by not stooping to their level.

I don't know if being able to add "webby-award-winning" in front of the name of your site or company means anything anymore (Ev sorta alludes that he'll get magical funding if they win the award).

Moral victory schmoral victory.. owillis said it, they're pricks. Yes, we all now the webbies are dumb & Tiffany Shlain has an ego the size of New Mexico, but I'm willing to bet that 90% of the people on the web have been convinced that winning a webby is some sort of validation for a website. So, Blogger gets my vote. And before you deride Blogger for crass self-promotion, do realize that LJ is doing pretty much the same thing, which is how they've managed to crack the top 5 (through only write-in votes) in 4 or 5 different categories. If there was a category for most devoted userbase, they'd definitely win.

"Declaring war"? Looks more like he's acknowledging a war that has been declared against him. Doesn't make Ev's reaction any less of a play into their hands, though.

Sorry, but I don't care about any of the three parties.

If blogger and livejournal go away, people might actually take the 5 minutes to learn HTML. If the webbies disappear, Tiffany Shlain will have to resort to becoming a webcam grrl to support her ego.

After seeing the latest counterattack, my only hope is that the resulting pissing contest between Ev and Insomnia discredits the Webbies once and for all.
