Delerium Tremens, people. Get the Delerium Tremens.

And someone please take a photo of the chalkboard so we can all see how fresh the beer is, and when the kegs were tapped. dba is the place that does that, right?
posted by LionIndex at 11:31 AM on May 27, 2004

the actual shakes, or there's a beer called that? ; >
posted by amberglow at 11:37 AM on May 27, 2004

I guess you could get both. There's a beer called that, and it comes in one of the fancy-pants goblets instead of a pint-glass. I think a friend of mine took me to dba when I visited and they had Delerium Tremens (the beer), but I might be mistaking it for someplace else.

dba has a live webcam.

I'm losing my mind again. Once again, I thought for the briefest of moments "why don't I ever just drive into the city". Then I smacked myself until the thought went away.

Am still undecided as to attendance, but the subway is the way to go, I'm sure.

The International meetup in NYC? Is this something like the World Series?

Have a great time, y'all!

i_cola: don't forget we ain't finished deciding when to have the London meetup - maybe July 2nd now, to accomodate Adrian and biffa (can't do 18th or 25th June).

Funny. I left my sunglasses there too.

You don't think they both... and then... Oh, man.

How late did y'all hang out?
posted by chicobangs at 8:46 AM on May 30, 2004

We stayed for another couple hours, then we went to Tile Bar, then me and Pips, Vidiot and Bari got tired and bailed around 10. Sarge, i_cola, Cunning Linguist, Amber, and Karmakaze, kept going.

Quote of the evening: "jonmc, I hate you online but I love you in person!"

I get that a lot.
posted by jonmc at 8:50 AM on May 30, 2004

Palegirl, I have your sunglasses. And chico's too, I suspect.

I put four photos up here. Feel free to add more photos from the gathering. Regrettably, I missed jonmc's foray into the ladies' room.

I have pictures. No captions tho'...too hungover ;-) I believe that some are still going in Atlantic City. We ended up at the bar on 7th & A & finished around, er, not sure..11 or 12 when amberglow couldn't physically drink any more beer and made sure Sarge, CunningL & myself got to our homes in one piece...thanks for that ;-)

I had a blast...great to meet so many folks. Cheers all!

I have someone's sunglasses too.

palegirl, it will be my pleasure not to buy you a drink anytime.

By the way, astruc, Rich, and I went to meet you fucks at the library bar not 20 minutes after you left, and there was no sign of you. Cheers for consistency.

what's going on tonight? ;)
posted by bingo at 11:32 AM on May 30, 2004

I'll be in Nevada Smith's on 3rd Ave from 5-7pm this afternoon watching the Brighton v Bristol City playoff final.

Sarge: She wasn't a flight attendant, she was an intern! And shouldn't you be in Atlantic City?

bingo: I didn't even make it thru the door of The Library b4 the switch to the Tile Bar was announced. If I'd've known you guys were following on I'd've waited!
posted by i_cola at 12:01 PM on May 30, 2004

sgt. stood us up--me and katrina (sgt's friend) and cunning couldn't do it either

no atlantic city, sadly. (but noisy casinos + hangover = not a good idea anyway)

Naw, amber, Vidiot's camera adds length to all noses. It's a magic camera. He paid for it in beans.

And looking throuh those shots, it occurs to me that the odds of any of us replacing Dick Cheney on the GOP ballot this fall just took a bit of a nosedive.
posted by chicobangs at 8:45 AM on May 31, 2004

i knew he was full of beans, but didn't know you could buy stuff with em. ; >

Think Westworld, chico--Cheney just goes to that lab underground and gets swapped into a new pasty, doughy republican body.

For those who like myself were confused by the caption "an occulted bingo," dictionary.com provides. Peronally, I like to think that somehow all these definitions come into play.

Of, relating to, or dealing with supernatural influences, agencies, or phenomena.
Beyond the realm of human comprehension; inscrutable.
Available only to the initiate; secret: occult lore. See Synonyms at mysterious.
Hidden from view; concealed.
Medicine. Detectable only by microscopic examination or chemical analysis, as a minute blood sample.
Not accompanied by readily detectable signs or symptoms: occult carcinoma.

In my case that would require divine intervention, never mind the spa, but it's the thought that counts.
posted by jonmc at 7:57 AM on June 1, 2004

I have heard about John Allan's, wasn't that featured in some of those annoying "Metrosexual" articles last year? My girlfriend keeps pestering me to get a pedicure, but I do not want to unleash the horror which are my feet on the unsuspecting feet cleaning populace. Talk about WMD's!
posted by plemeljr at 8:09 AM on June 1, 2004

Oh, plemeljr, those people have been through the valley of the shadow of foot death. Your dogs would be ice cream in the park in comparison.

I kinda like the idea. I got a manicure/pedicure once about seven-eight years ago, and I can see why people get hooked on them.

Who's coming next month? We need to get hopping now, people. These meetups don't plan themselves, and we've got a reputation to keep up now.

And if the spa thing doesn't work for you all, we could have a neurosurgery party. I've been taking night school classes.

Well, I'm only just emerging from the hangover to come say wow - I had a blast. As I vaguely remember proclaiming loudly at least 35 times, I was kind of amazed. I certainly wasn't expecting to end up on a street corner leaving slurry messages on answering machines of people I hadn't seen in years, actually believing that heading for AC in a few hours was a truly splendid idea and playing Cupid with a strange Scottsman and a dopey Lufthansa intern. Maybe if he'd kept the kilt on.....

I believe you guys promised me deep fried Toffee Crisps. Don't think for a moment I'm not going to hold you to that promise.

Now I'm off to change my userpage to stress that despite the dopey screen name, I am not a lesbian. Not that, you know, there's anything wrong with that, but it was a little disconcerting to find everyone just assumed...
posted by CunningLinguist at 9:54 AM on June 2, 2004

Really? I assumed nothing of the sort.

(Hey, what people do behind closed doors is their own damn business, as far as I'm concerned...unless it's really entertaining and/or weird, in which case I want pictures.)

There were dopey Lufthansa interns? Dammit, I left too early. Damn sleep-deprivation catching up with me at inopportune times...

And CL, come back to Noo Yawk. We'll getcha a toffee crisp.

oops, hehe. well ok sarge but how was i to know...? but thank you, it was a nice surprise and i like how you made my name so big it looks like i'm crowding the other names off the page. it's funny 'cause in person i tend to sprawl out and take up more than my share of personal space. this is why i spell my n a m e online the way i do. 8-)

and hey, considering how many active crushes i have at any given time, coming in second to amber is pretty darn good...! :-D

(how about a toronto or montreal meetup this summer? say early July?)

i'll be in beautiful downtown winterpeg for most of july - i'm having a big visit-my-family tour of north america this summer. toronto needs to have a big meet up tho', and have the adorable god complex as the special out of town guest, since he's in province all summer.
