Two links to Ananova (1,2) in less than 4 minutes?

Make that three links in 15 minutes, the first one to Yahoo.

Yeah, BWG went on a streak.

Though I'm generally against a set limit on front page posts in a day, maybe some kind of time limit is in order, or at least requiring some other threads come in between...

Ananova and Reuters' "oddly enough" links are kind of lame on MetaFilter.

They make the last 30 seconds of every nightly newscast, but most importantly, there isn't much to discuss about them here. If I make up a typical ananova headline like "Man bites dog, discovers glowing bunnies, then bungee jumps from empire state building" -- what's there to say besides "oh boy, that's wacky!"

Nuts, and I was going to post a comment about the lack of discussion in one of those threads (it degenerated into a pile of slush)....

Matt: serious and curious question... are there any threads that you can think of, just off the top of your head, that stand out as being MeFi at its finest?

I liked the way this thread from yesterday pulled out a lot of good posts by asking a question on top of linking the "quirky" story.

I was reading a Kottke post about Metafilter last night. It still seemed to be true (even prescient?):
Metafilter, a collaborative weblog, has become one of my favorite sites lately. And from what I hear, it's been getting more popular with other folks as well....more people have been posting there and leaving comments and such. This is both good and bad, I suppose. Diversity of opinion and discussion is good, but as with most collaborative communities like this, it's only as good as the worst participant.

A possible solution for Matt as he moves the site forward is allowing only approved posters to post stories on the front page, but anyone can post comments.....just like Slashdot. I mean, could you imagine Slashdot if *anyone* could post a story? Chaos. There'd be 400 stories a day and they'd all be crap.
Not that all posts are crap, but you get the point.

Not only was that fourth one annoying, but it was a self-blog. Where's the yellow card?

It's been mentioned before, but should there a brief instruction set for posting? Something like:

Before you post, doublecheck via MetaFilter's search feature to see if the story has been posted before. (Search on more than the specific URL; different news entities often carry stories that are nearly identical.) Does your post follow the guidelines? Ask yourself how likely it is to be new to MetaFilter's readers. If it's related to an issue that has been discussed on MetaFilter repeatedly, especially a political topic, ask yourself whether your post brings anything new to the table. Is your post interesting in and of itself? Does it carry the possibility of generating interesting discussion? If you had no relationship to the post, would you find it worthwhile?

Apparently the yellow card has been issued, cause the fourth post (self-link) is toast.

All the Ananova links are "via Fark."

I just like this. Especially the bunny part. : )
