Nationwide movie meetup - Farenheit 9/11 June 23, 2004 9:31 PM Subscribe
Whats say we make a list of the members who are going to watch Farenheit 9/11, and see if we can meet each other at the movie theater? Weve got a little time left, it may be cool to do.
Fuck that, for those of us who are going to see White Chicks, the list starts here.

I'm going with the missus. There would have to be an awful lot of explaining if I met any of you lot. Right now, she thinks I'm in my office, working.

I'm pretty sure that every real MeFite has quit at some point, only to return again. And been banned at least once. These are the battle scars that make you a MeFi Superstar USA.

I came back because I realized somebody talking trash shouldn't be a reason to quit something I actually like to do. It would be like stopping something that can be a good thing because someone you dont know said to. Anyways, back to the question at hand. I may be attending at regal cinemas in Hillsboro, Oregon on TV highway.

If any of you DC Mefites are interested, a bunch of people from Crunchland are going to the show on Friday, July 2, up in Silver Spring. We still haven't worked out the details (like which showing, and where to meet, etc.) but, the more, the merrier.

I'll be watching it in Georgetown (DC) at 9:30, with (at least) two other MetaFilterians. Geez, we'll be easy to pick out of a crowd:
Me: white, 6'5", ponytail
MrsMoonPie: multi-racial, prominent tattoo, total hotness
Metafilterian1: asian, average height
Metafilterian2: white, 6' or so
We'll fit right in with all the other homolefties, I guess!

Because when it's time for a massive gathering, the place to be is Hillsboro, Oregon. ;)
(Hillsboro is practically downtown Portland, which is home to a number of MeFites...)

Just got back from the movie. The place was packed. This was the only theater outside of portland playing the film in the state of Oregon. Michael Moore is going to win another oscar. It was well done, showing evidence that is tangible and researchable. It showed footage of men and women in Iraq fighting, talking about what has been happening and their opinions of the war. It showed the connectable links between the Bush family and the Bin Laden family, in a thorough and direct way. There was not a dry tear in the room during multiple scenes. Everyone stood and clapped at the end of the film.

What the hell is a dry tear anyway, Keyser?
No, really, just about the same in the packed house where I saw it. I can't remember the last time I applauded at the end of a movie. I was surprised at how good it was, and I expected it to be good.
People who complain it's not a documentary are actually right, it is a polemic, but an extremely important, accurate and well-made one. Most significantly, though it's pitched as a movie to eject Bush from the White House, it actually cuts much deeper into the entire military-industrial complex, in a way ordinary people (if such will make it to a showing) can quickly grasp. I'm about ready to forgive Moore every previous showboating transgression for this.
